“A perfect 10!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

This is the BEST place you can possible stay at while visiting Winnipeg! It feels like it's country side, with it's huge property and being located on the river but it is right in town. Everything is perfection - from it's old and interesting architecture, the perfectly landscaped grounds to the friendly hospitality. The breakfasts that are included are amazing! Everything is homemade and served on a silver platter (literally)! Bob and Mavis are perfect hosts and Mavis is an exceptional cook! The beds are comfy, the rooms are spotless and complete with your own fridge and Keurig. Any additional amenity you could ask for has been thought of and included - from make- up remover to antique silver spoons to stir your coffee. I have never been to a place so charming and romantic! I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Maybe not walking distance from everything, but definitely a short drive.

Our new daughter-in-law's family stayed at the River Gate Inn while in Winnipeg for the wedding. We had the opportunity to visit the Inn on two occasions and were impressed by how welcoming the Inn keepers were. A lovely historic mansion along the river, de core spot on to the period, rooms tastefully decorated and spotless, beautiful yard with in-ground pool. Mavis and Bob you have done a wonderful job in making your Inn a wonderful experience. We would highly recommend this inn to anyone travelling to Winnipeg! Thank-you so much!

Room Tip: Large room has a window air conditioner. I would recommend this room if travelling during the summer...

I had never before stayed in a B&B; I booked the River Gate Inn, based on other reviews on this site. Mavis is a wonderful Inn Keeper and provides elegant service. Her breakfast is fabulous and the location of this place is very convenient to many of the attractions in Winnipeg, although it is in a secluded site, very peaceful and a great place to relax. I will absolutely stay at the River Gate Inn the next time I visit Winnipeg.

This was our first trip to Winnipeg and we wanted to stay somewhere central so we could walk or bike to the sights. It was a great stroke of luck that we found the River Gate Inn. We absolutely loved our stay. River Gate is a grand old home built on Armstrong Point, a peninsula with the Assiniboine River flowing around it. It is in a secluded neighbourhood developed in the late 1800 and early 1900's where the wealthy of the booming Western city choose to build their mansions. The charm of that era has been preserved and it is a wonderful area to explore.
At the same time you are only a pleasant 20 to 30 minute walk to the Legislative grounds, the historical Exchange District that holds the intrigue of the boom days among its fine early 1900s sky scrapers, and the Forks, where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet, and the Aboriginal, Metis, and early settlers came together. Today it is bustling with markets, restaurants and night life and is the site of the magnificent soon to open Museum of Human Rights. Across the river is historical St Boniface.
We were greeted warmly at the River Gate, shown our room, the only one without an on-suite.
Although small, it has a sink, a water cooler and robes to wear to cross the hall to the private bathroom. Our hosts answered any questions we had about Winnipeg and provided us with bicycles. We were able to bike the trails down to Assiniboine Park, an immense public area with gardens, the fabulous Leo Mol Sculpture garden, a large zoo and childrens' play area.
We loved our outings but were very happy to return to the Inn where we spent our evenings in the sun room, listening to good music, and enjoying the view of the river and outdoor pool. To complete our perfect stay, we would help ourselves to wine from the cooler in the dining room. Our host only asked that we tell them which wine and they added this to our bill. Our Chilean wine was $12.
We could write requests for breakfast on a message board and anything we desired was made fresh to start our day.
What more can I say; our stay was perfection. Because of it we loved Winnipeg and hope to return again.

We moved to Winnipeg in February 2014. Having known no one here, this Inn was randomly chosen from the internet to be our first stop in this winter city. The week we stayed proved this decision to be among the wisest ones we ever made in our life. The location is ideal: close to downtown but far away from all the hustle and bustle, one of the quietest neighbourhoods in town but minutes away from the city centre. The house is beautiful: even fabulous in harsh winter, we can't yet imagine how gorgeous it would be in summer, with trees, garden, the pool, and the river that flows by it. The hosts ... ah the hosts ... they are so kind to us, I don't know where to begin. When they learned that we were new comers, they poured out their resources to help us in anything new comers typically face, and much more beyond that. We were treated like family. One fact to mention here: a lot of their guests are people who stayed there before, who naturally came back with satisfaction, who became friends with the hosts. Now we are not out-of-towners anymore, we are still planning to find excuses to stay in this Inn sometime in the future. Maybe next summer?

We must have done something good in our past to deserve this luck of chancing upon them. We are so happy to have befriended these wonderful people, and other friends we made during our stay. They made Winnipeg such a warm city in winter.

I visited this past week and just wanted to say how great my experience was there. I have stayed at many B&B's and this is one of the best. The house is beautiful, the breakfast is delicious, and the beds are very comfortable. The Inn is run by a great family who is very accommodating. The location could not have been better with easy access to downtown and walking access to the River Trail. Hopefully I find myself in Winnipeg again and can return to this Inn.

we spent two nights here in Oct . and wished our trip was longer. The place is beautiful with lots of attention to details which make a stay pleasant. Hosts were very accommodating as to meal requirements ( we are vegetarian) , pleasant, helpful, and the breakfasts were generous. Wifi worked and there were lovely seating areas to relax in . Easily the nicest B&B I have stayed in.
