“Not bad, served it's purpose.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2010

Had a last minute trip to the 'peg for business. Check-in was quick and uncomplicated. Had a King room, smoking. Some burn marks on carpet and in bathroom on tub, overall room was decent, although bed a bit on soft side. 2 TVs, workdesk, ample electrical plugs to recharge GPS/Blackberry and laptop. Mini fridge and sofa in joining room.
Pancake restaurant is ok for morning coffee and a bagel. Not much open/around at night time, however ample vending machines. Parking facility is adjacent, free and ample but could use better signage.
WiFi was a bit problematic, got booted off a few times during my one night stay. Paid about 170$, was not my first choice for hotel but some big event was in town so I had to settle on this hotel as no other rooms were available.
Water park looked nice but I had no time to check it out.

This place is way over priced! While our room was large and clean, there was no comfortable furnishings. Just a a small round tablle with 3 flimly chairs. No furniture but an armoire holding the small tube TV! What I found the most inconvenient was that there was no fridge in this vast room. You pay $170 a night and not even a fridge! To me that is just standard for any room. Just awful value! The only postive is that the pool area is good for children with a waterslide but you can find better else where for less in a better location. Will never stay here again.

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at Clarion in the last few years. I get to Winnipeg a lot on business. Normally I stay at the Hilton which is closer to the airport. But this time I was with family and meeting with some friend at WPG so thought would stay at Clarion. Reason was proximity to Polo Park Shopping Center and some food options nearby. And the hotel has an indoor water park which makes it attractive for my 7 year old.

I got a rate of $170 due to my AAA card. Remember to use it, you can save 20 bucks of regular rate. I stayed for 1 night when I got into WPG and then 2 more nights after we returned from Kenora. So I stayed for 3 nights over a 1 week period and must say that this hotel is slowly becoming a dump. It is clear that the owners have made ZERO and I mean ZERO reinvestment into the hotel. For one that charges $170 per nights, its like a Days Inn or another motel chain.

When I got in they upgraded me to an executive suite. What is this you ask? Nothing more than a room with a very large empty living area. It seems that they had some extra space while making the building so they added it to the rooms, called it executive suite and want to charge more money for it. I know because on my return I stayed at the regular suite and the only difference was that there was no vast empty space in the middle of the room. That was it. In all other aspects the suites are identical. So dont waste money on an executive suite.

Service you ask!!! Are you joking?? Service? Whats that at 170 bucks a night. You have the pleasure of hauling all your own luggage. As I said earlier, Days Inn is pretty close. At least you pay less money at Days Inn.

Bottom Line; very very very average stay. I would have actually given this hotel a 2 or a 1 star but the problem is that Winnipeg overall has very average to poor hotels. So compared to the other hotels this one is a bit better. But be prepared to pay a high price for a motel experience at this hotel. My advise to the management is sell the hotel and get done with it. Its clear they don't want to reinvest in this business. This will only lead to more unhappy customers and more loss of business.

Me and my partner wanted to have a staycation at a nice hotel. We decided the Clarion Hotel because of the quality the Clarion brand carries. We were wrong! We brought a laptop to keep in touch and the wireless signal was so low in the room we couldnt access it on the laptop. The TV was very dim and was an old style tube TV (For a 'modern luxury' hotel that is unacceptable), the room was too cold and the shower instead of having a professionally installed shower curtain / door it was a flimsy plastic rod with a dirty shower curtain. We decided to try out the water park, and its nothing too special. The pool floor near the waterslide is starting to come apart. Just an awful stay, brought harm to the Clarion brand name.

For the business traveller or the shopper that doesn't need ready access to the downtown area of Winnipeg, but likes the convenience of the a shuttle service to the airport, a large near-by shopping mall, or the selection of several reasonably appointed restaurants and fast food joints, this location may be a good choice for those visiting Winnipeg.

On the flip side, the hotel isn't anything special and the beds are beginning to see the end of their life. The rooms are average and the hotel caters to moderate size business groups and those in for weekend vacations with their small children.

So if you are in for a short stay at a moderately priced hotel in Winnipeg, the Clarion Hotel & Suites may be just the right one for you.

We stayed here on one of our many trips to Winnipeg, we had seen it many time and always wanted to try it. Convenience was great close to the Mall. The Pool was cold and small couldn't really swim to shallow, water slide was great! hot tub was luke warm. No appointments were available for spa treatments I was told to book ahead...not good for guests staying there general public appointments were taken first. Staff was unfriendly and not even a smile was offered. Bed was hard, TV was small and old, We were booked to stay 4 night we checked out after first night and were not even asked why? Its like they didnt really care if we were there or not. Don't bother staying here not worth it.

Room has very poor lighting. Very dark at night.
Our refrigerator seldom worked, requested to have it looked at, nobody ever came.
TV's are out dated and the remote controls barely work.
The entertainment option for movies does not work. We were first told there were too many people on it. On the third night they told us it was a tech problem which they could not resolve.
Ice machice on the second floor is the only working one.
Our floor is vacumed only on our request.
Cleaning lady misplaced a spa gift certificate IN OUR ROOM!
A very rude front desk lady. We stayed in this hotel for a week and had very poor service. I would not recommend it to anybody. There are better hotels in the same general area.
