“Very nice hotel in a challenging location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

The Fairmont Winnipeg is an excellent property at the corner of Portage and Main. It is centrally located relative to the MTS Center and the Concert Hall. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pool is a salt water delight. But getting around on foot is a challenge. The City Fathers have decided that pedestrians cannot be trusted to cross the street, so you are forced to either walk out of your way in a seedy part of town or enter an underground maze with very poor signage that also assumes that the directions NSEW are useless but "Richardson Tower" is. Totally stupid. If you stay at the Delta up the street much of this is avoided. But be prepared for drunks, take-downs, and 24 hr police sirens wherever you stay in downtown Winnipeg. It is not the murder capital of Canada for nothing. You may also wish to pay the premium for valet parking, there are a large number of smash and grabs in downtown WPG, and the attention given to your vehicle by the staff may save you a headache. Sign up for the chain's loyalty program BEFORE check-in to access free in-room WIFI.

Room Tip: Higher is better, corner room, overlooking the river as opposed to downtown.

Thank you for sharing your recent experience at our hotel. I’m glad you were able to enjoy our salt water pool and interact with our pleasant staff. We are conveniently located close to some of the major business centers, shopping areas and a variety of great restaurants. We offer valet parking to our guests but we are also fortunate to be located to next door to safe and secure indoor parkades. I hope we will be able to welcome you back to The Fairmont Winnipeg in the future.
Kind regards,
Pascale Rocher

For work or a downtown event, the Fairmont location is very convenient. Newly renovated rooms have an upscale vibe but they're small. Good fitness facilities. Restaurant is pricey but there are many coffee shops in the underground mall for breakfast.

I stayed here while in business in Winnipeg. The staff at the hotel was exceedingly polite and helpful, offering all the service we needed. The hotel has a great location, right in the heart of downtown. There is free wifi throughout the building. The room was average sized, with a comfortable bed. The water pressure in the shower was fairly weak.

Recently attended a conference at the Fairmont, Winnipeg. This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. Staff are very friendly and go out of there way to serve. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The Keurig coffee maker was a treat. Access to the downtown via the tunnel system was convenient and likely more so in winter. The hotel is situated close to the Forks which is a great place to spend some time. The gym and pool area are well equipped.
overall, a great hotel if in Winnipeg.

Welcome back to the Fairmont Winnipeg and I’m pleased to hear you enjoyed you return visit. We’ve recently renovated our hotel rooms and have had a positive response from the public. The Keurigs in our regular rooms, and the Nespresso machines on our Fairmont Gold floor, have been particularly popular. Thank you again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel.

Had the pleasure to stay here for four nights in early may whilst attending a conference. Nice Hotel with standard Fairmont ammenities. Easy to get to from the hotel by cab (around $20.00). Check in was easy, met at the door by friendly doorman. Ladies at the front desk were great. Stayed on the sixth floor, king room, bed was super comfy, bathrooms were up-dated, awesome keurig coffee maker. Overall typical standard Fairmont. Parts of the Hotel have been up-dated some still looking a little worse for wear. Didnt eat in the Hotel restaurant but Earls is a 8-10 minute walk. The Forks is an easy walk as is the baseball stadium. Tim Hortons can be found underneath and the tunnel system can also take you to a shoppers, starbucks and some little shops and a food court. Important to note here very few shops open underneath on Saturday and Timmys is not open at all sat and Sunday and there is nothing open underneath on a sunday!
Gym and Pool were great on 21st floor with great views, with seperate showers and change rooms for men and women, steam room was great but hot tub wasnt working for our entire stay.
I gave this rating an excellent based more on service than anything else.....here's why.
Our shower drain was blocked and it wouldnt drain at all. Was assured it was looked after after attentive service from the front desk, but then the next day was even worse.......again politely went downstairs and sopke with the front desk Ladies who were awesome, and not only were they awesome so were the on duty managers.
The First day Jane looked after us magnificently and then the following day Deanna couldnt do enough......George rang to check on us and along with the front desk ladies we had interactions with, Lucie, and Sarah in particular...these ladies (and of course George) were the epitomy of what you would expect not only from the Fairmont but any Hotel you experience problems with. They were accommadating, polite, corteous and for this very reason we will definately be experiencing the Fairmont hospitality again......perhaps in Banff or Lake Louise?
Thank you Ladies and George for a wonderful stay and thank you Fairmont for showing that true hospitality and service does exist!

Room Tip: Go for a higher floor

I had to stay at this hotel for a conference and after staying at the Royal York(Toronto) I had lowered expectations. I was surprised how up to date the hotel was and the conditon of the rooms ~ great! Staff were very friendly and would for sure stay here again! Food was great in the restaurants and the lounge provides great place for a drink and relaxation after a hard day of work!

Room Tip: rooms on higher floors are quieter as heavy traffic on roads.

I have to say it was hit and miss on the staff most of them were friendly and some were just rude

Not a friendly hotel for families this place is for business and conventions I have stayed in several hotels that would treat the little ones like gold. This is not the case at this hotel it was as if we were a burden on them.

I will say that the person that replies for this hotel comments on only the positive reviews and does not address the negative ones

I am returning to Winnipeg in August and I will be staying somewhere else
