“Nice hotel with cramped parking lot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2010

The Holiday Inn South in Winnipeg is very nice. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The pool and fitness areas are nice.

The only challenge for us was the parking lot, which was very cramped. There were poles all over the place, which made parking and pulling out a challenge.

On a side note: We did not eat at the hotel restaurant, so I cannot offer a review of that. There is no continental breakfast.

Stayed here in June on a trip from Toronto to Saskatoon. Check-in was very fast, the staff are friendly and the restaurant in the hotel lobby is quite good. Rooms were comfortable, I do think they look a bit tired and small, but they are comfortable and do the job nicely. There is a supermarket across the street and a police station next door, so it does feel pretty secure. Overall it was a good stay, and I will stay here again in future when passing through Winnipeg.

Great hotel. Excellent staff. Shallow swimming pool for children and one next to it for older children and adults. Also a whirlpool. Grocery store right across the street open till 11pm on most nights. Five minutes from downtown Winnipeg. Restaurant on site. Many restaurants within walking distance or a minute or two drive. Got two queen beds. Paid $60 a night on Priceline. They have their own parking ramp behind the hotel. Free parking. Free wireless internet. Quiet. Excellent shower. Most spots are covered except the top level of the ramp. This is now my hotel of choice in Winnipeg.

This hotel from a room perspective is average. Actually, its an older hotel and at times it shows its age. And to be honest, the beds are not as comfortable as other Holiday Inns - especially those that have been recently renovated..
HOWEVER..
The restaurant is what kept me coming back for a total of 6 weeks!!! This chef (and I did have opportunity to meet him personally) has done a FANTASTIC job of cooking "homestyle". All the meals taste as though they were cooked at home. When you travel as much as I do, there is only so much KEG, TONY ROMAs, BATON ROUGE, etc that you can take without getting sick of eating out. This hotel had a variety of selctions and a cooking style that made everything taste unique. Whether it was the RIBs, Salmon, Talpia, Meatloaf, Alberta Beef or Pasta - it was awesome.
If you travel alot and want a great meal on the road - or heck, it you live in the area of this hotel, head on over for dinner out.. you will not be disappointed!

Travelling across Canada with my dog and chose to stay in south Winnipeg -- was just passing through anyhow so I wanted to stay away from downtown considering it was St. Patrick's Day Night.
Great hotel. Very friendly staff. Very clean and safe area.
Super pet friendly -- not a lower-class room to accommodate me and the dog. Immaculate and nice view. Big, clean rooms. Fluffy pillows. Great bedding. Best shower from here to Toronto.
Great soccer field to let the dog run around right next door and many official off-leash parks in Winnipeg -- check out 'fields for fido' program. The Maple Grove park is great.
Great parking garage. No 'suspect' people around -- there's a cop station next door.
Overall, a great surprise on the journey. I stayed an extra night just to chill out after driving 3 days. It was that comfortable, I didn't want to leave.
Highly reco'd. May not be the best if you want to be 'downtown with the action'.
Supermarket across the street too.
A ++

Service was friendly and helpful. Rooms were average and clean. Airport shuttle is convenient. The doors were a little thin. If you need to stay in south Winnipeg, this is a nice choice.
