This is a very rustic hotel; its location is the 1st hotel in town.
The town isn't huge so no where is too far to walk.
It's adequate & clean, friendly staff and efficient service.
We stayed there as part of a tour for 4 Days, the accommodation is basic, in your room you have a bathroom very clean (but we had a loose toilet seat which we fixed took about two minutes to unbolt the seat and reseat the fittings & a thermostat that was stuck in the bathroom, again we managed to get sorted, this should be look at as the rooms are cleaned), there are a couple of beds a T.V cupboard with no doors and no where to hang clothes except for two small pegs in the wall for your coats.
I know everything is casual in Churchill but even a wooden rail in the corner of the room would be useful to hang some clothes, instead of having to live out of a suitcase.
The restaurant was a reasonable size, shame the lodge doesn't have a bigger area to sit around in, there is a room with seating for about 5-6, and the lodge does not have a bar so there is nowhere to have a drink or socialise.
Having said this, all credit to the couple who own the lodge, Wally did the building and the furniture so a lot of hard work has gone into the place.
Wally appears to be very busy with the build and many of his other jobs, he was our local guide both on the tundra (meals provided on the tundra were very good), and on a tour of the town, he was a very interesting and knowledgeable guide.

The LBL is the most fantastic hotel in Churchill. The owner Wally Daudrich and his wife build this log cabin style two storey hotel themselves. It has by far the best ambiance of any hotel in churchill. Food is excellent - specials include caribou, musk ox and artic char. Rooms are small but totally adequate and warm (definitely a requirement in October). Wally is also an excellent naturalist guide and historian. Would recommend this hotel ot anyone.

Just stayed 3 days at the Lazy Bear on business. This is a nice little hotel. Keep in mind Churchill isn't all that upscale, but if you're going there and understand what you're in for, you can't do wrong by staying here. The interior is extreamly inviting and cozy. Beds are "OK". Bring your own hair dryer. Don't expect to carry on any luggage on the Calm Air flight, and if you're tall, get in line first for the 3 front seats, otherwise your knees will be jammed. But they are very professional and nice, in fact best food service on any airline since 9-11. Surprising for such a small plane. Gypsys is THE hang-out. Seaport has great dinner, some others, not so much... but they were all wonderful, wonderful people. A once in a life time trip.

“Lazy Bear is Number One”

Just returned from Churchill Manitoba where I stayed at the Lazy Bear Lodge. What an experience! From the time we were picked up at the airport until our return to the airport on Saturday the service was excellent. Accommodations, food, and tours are great. Wally and Tom are both excellent guides and went the extra mile for us. We saw polar bears, beluga whales, and birds including snow geese. On the final night of our stay we were able to see the Northern lights. Wally took us in the lodge's van to Cape Merry so we could see the light show. This trip was not part of the scheduled tours. I was very impressed since this was after midnight and Wally had already worked a very long day.

The Lazy Bear Lodge has an excellent web site with plenty of useful and accurate information. Take plenty of warm clothes for the boat trips and bring your bug spray.

The Lodge is very child friendly and offers a great experience for families. This is an experience not to be missed.
