We love to stay at Legends in the winter. It's in Creekside right next to the slopes so it's very easy to get up the mountain in the morning on the gondola - and you don't have the crowds that you get in the main village. Plus, at the end of the day you can almost ski to the back door. There's also an ample market and Starbucks within walking distance, not to mention the Rim Rock Cafe just up the road - one of the best restaurants in Whistler.
The rooms have a ski-lodge feel but I wouldn't call it rustic. All the amenities you would need, too, including a full kitchen. Fitness center is right near the pool, with a beautiful view up the mountain, and there's a big-screen TV lounge with nightly movies.
I recommend Legends to anyone traveling to Whistler, especially with kids of all ages.
