“UBC Lodge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

This was a great place to stay. It was a short walk and a 5 minute bus ride to the village. There was free WiFi, good hot tub, good rooms with a personal locker (you need to bring a lock), friendly staff. The kitchen is very big. Really good price as well and its a better location then the Hi Hostel. Met heaps of nice people there.

Loved the whistler lodge, stayed there for close to a month. Very cheap, ski in ski out access, wifi is ten time better than the HI HOSTEL, very great place for a low budget

Good layout, friendly staff. Quiet accommodations and a good space to relax. Not for the all night partier. Great price.

This place is not a lodge or a hotel. It is a HOSTEL. We were in a bit of a shock when we first got there. The pictures on the website are very old and misleading! There are so many rules and cameras everywhere! On the plus side, it is clean and the current manager is a nice person. The mattresses are really hard and uncomfortable. There are no outlets except one in a hallway right underneath a camera. Its impossible to charge a phone overnight! You have to pay extra for internet. You have to bring your own clean slippers for indoor use as street shoes are not allowed inside the facility. The place doesn't seem to have been maintained very well. The paint is chipping off and there are weeds growing all over the place with no lansdscaping. UBC students pay so much to keep this place running. It NEEDS to be renovated...!!

Room Tip: Bring your own slippers, toiletries

I visited the UBC Whistler Lodge numerous times during the '11 ski season for 1-2 nights per stay (Jan, Feb, Mar). Shannon, Steve and Rob, the UBC staff, were always welcoming and hospitable. They always worked to make my stay as a comfortable and pleasant as possible.

It's extremely affordable, especially with a valid student ID and a great place to meet interesting people, both on a off the slopes.

Suggestions:
-Bring shower shoes
-Bring a small combo lock to secure personal items in lockable cubbies; however, security was never an issue for me
-To keep costs down, shop for food/beer prior to arriving to Whistler. Make sure to bring small qty's of seasoning and oil/butter for cooking. They have a grill, use it!
-Sheets/towels are avail for a small fee

Room Tip: Ask staff for ski/board rental discounts

I recently stayed at the UBC Whistler Lodge with 2 friends. We really enjoyed our stay. Finding affordable accommodation options in Whistler can be tough, especially for 3 people. The lodge was cozy and comfortable and walking distance from the Creekside ski lift. Will definitely return. Loved the outdoor hot tub.

I've been staying at this lodge for 15 years, watching it fortify with cameras all over the place, and new rules (e.g. no alcohol in the hot tub).

While the staff knew about a bed bug infestation, I had to learn this the hard way, getting bitten 5 times in one night, and about 15 the second night.

I'm seeking reimbursement for my expenses, but the UBC lodge advises that once you leave their property, they are not responsible for the problem if it spreads. They'll pay for my laundry costs though. Aren't they sweet?

A 15 year long experience has come to a bloody and unhappy end. Stay elsewhere.

WhistlerLodge, Manager at UBC - Whistler Lodge, responded to this review, April 13, 2011
The problem mentioned by the guest here was isolated to only one room in the hostel, and has been completely, 110% eradicated. All guests from this point forward can rest assured that this is not an issue.
