My friends and I had a craving for sushi, so we looked up all the options in the village and decided on Harajuku Izakaya. We weren't expecting much, but upon walking in we were amazed at the opulent decor and friendly staff. It actually felt like we were right in the heart of Harajuku, Japan, since the interior is designed to mimic the atmospheric street life there. You can either sit in one of the booths or at the bar if you want to absorb the lively and intimate surroundings, or you can choose one of the more secluded curtain enclosed tables if you want more privacy during your visit, some of which can accommodate quite large groups--perfect for parties or just a raucous night out with a group of friends.
As far as the menu goes, there is definitely more to this place than sushi. They have a variety of Japanese and Korean fusion dishes--I recommend the Bibimbap or the Fried Udon noodles--but if you have your heart set on something raw, I usually always get the Fuji Rock roll.
If food isn't your thing, there's an endless array of creative cocktails to wet your whistle. My friends and I enjoyed a pitcher of sake margaritas between us. All and all, this place is a hidden gem of Whistler--I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for some quality food and an authentic glimpse into Japanese culture, all for a fraction of the cost of your other options in the village.
