“Aspens #220 is a great unit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2011

Four of us traveled to Whistler Blackcomb in January. We rented unit #220 through alluradirect.com. The people we worked with were wonderful. The unit is very clean and updated. The unit is very comfortable and we highly recommend it. The Aspens is the perfect place to stay. It is right on the slopes and you can ski in and ski out. Be sure to check out renting gear right in the Aspens instead of renting it off site. Three of us hiked through town to get our gear, and one went downstairs. The one that went downstairs didn’t pay any more than the rest of us.

The Aspens is great for groups that are traveling together. The units are owned and managed by different people. Some units are nicer than others, so some are more expensive than others. This works great for a mixed group of people.

Just an awful stay at Aspens Whistler. The room was very weathered. Broken, screens on windows, not clean, fan was broken, so we opened the windows only to let the bugs and horrible odor of marajuana wofting into our room. Not great when u have a 7, three 12 and one 14 year old...... Front desk was awful Leon the GM had the worst people skills I have seen. He even had the nerve to say he owned the whole property. Asked for a copy of my visa statement only to have him come out and ask "what is my problem" Never go back again!!!

It is unfortunate and I feel terrible that this guest had a disappointing experience at The Aspens in Whistler. ResortQuest Whistler manages the 24-hour front desk but we only physically manage approximately 80 of the 233 units in the Aspens. This guest did not stay in a ResortQuest unit. This guest rented and booked his stay with Blackcomb Peaks Accommodation and I can only assume that his in-suite issues translated to his abusive actions with our front desk team. I was forced to come out from my back office to politely ask the guest to calm down, refrain from using profanity and to lower his voice. I asked my front desk agent to go to the back office and I proceeded to explain the pool towel policy. The guest demanded my name, which I gave him, and he stormed off. We were close to fully occupancy during this long weekend and there were many witnesses to his tirade.

Terrible stay at the Aspens. The room was a joke. No fans, screens were broken so bugs freely came in. The deck wasn't cleaned, cigarette ashes waiting for us. BBQ had sauce all over side table. The fold out Queen in the living room was like a taco, daughter had 2 horrible sleeps. The window in the 2nd room was broken so it would stay up and only opened a couple inches. Room therefore was very stuffy. Tried to deal with front end staff and that was a joke led by the so-called GM or Owner Leon [-]. Played the tough guy role and has the people skills of a donkey. Pretty sad if that kind of person is leading your customer service skills. Will never go back and will make sure I tell everyone I know what a joke Leon and his staff are!!

The Aspens’ location is very convenient. We stayed #356 for a three night stay. This is an end unit with the balcony looking out on the slope – nice in summer or winter. When the windows are open you can hear the music being played at the Blackcomb Base as well as people in the pool and hot tub. The noise was not bothersome to us but if you are quickly bothered by low level noise you may want to rethink. The unit - one bedroom – was clean, roomy and light during daytime but in serious need of updating and maintenance. Things are outdated, broken, banged and scuffed up and generally appointments were in short supply (i.e. 3 dining chairs in a 4-person unit). The range was not working – only the oven. Called maintenance and they came over and did get 2 burners to work; sort of. Parts were ordered for a repair but that will be after we leave. A water leak in the sealing had been fixed but drywall repair and repainting was not completed. The bed creaked so badly that we were afraid it would collapse. Plates and dishes are a pitiful few and what is there is badly chipped or cracked. Oh yes, there are very few lamps and then only with 60 watt bulbs making reading at night almost impossible. Suggest you stay some other unit until this one is fixed, renovated and resupplied.

Item of note: although the complex is right on the slope, in winter you may still have quite a walk in your ski booths. Skis and boards must be stored in a central locker and walking there and back to your unit can be longer than you expect due to the shape of the building.

Room Tip: Check whether your room faces the slope or road and location relative to the pool

I am pleased to say that this fall Aspens 356 is getting new paint, kitchen appliances and a new TV.

Stayed at the Aspens two X-masses in a row, I guess it tells you that the place is worth coming back. If you travel as a family with one or more kids, there is no better place in Whistler. Be warned that prices double starting 23-24th. up untill early January. So if you are flexible and budgeted, pick your time outside X-mass. Both times we booked with small companies managing condos, not the Aspens itself, it was a bit cheaper and we had no trouble.
We flew to Vancouver and rented a car, do not mess around with the bus. Leisurely, leave 2 hrs for driving, just in case it snows and you are driving at night. The place has a kitchen and you can do grocery shopping in the Whistler village. A tip, LCBO has a wierd schedule during holidays, so a back up location for alcohol is near the Aspens, on the Blackcomb side. I think it is on the first floor of Four Seasons. This store works longer and is open during holidays as well.
Skiing is great!!!!! Warm, variable terrain. Jump into the ski at the condo complex and ski 100m down to the lift. Then, at the day end, ski in to the same spot. Very convenient. We had lunches at the Rendevouz. Just try to avoid 12-1pm time, very busy.
At the Aspens, we spent evening at the hot tub, then warmish swimming pool, then watched movies at the fireplace till we fall asleep.
Parking is a bit pricey. Internet free (we used ethernet cable).

We just returned from a fabulous week at Whistler. We booked a one bedroom condo at the Aspens using Blackcomb Peaks.

Everything was exactly as described. The condo was beautiful and in excellent condition.

The swimming pool and three hot tubs provided us with great family entertainment after skiing.

The Aspens is literally right beside the kids ski-school and Wizard chair. Made it so easy. Especially with the ski-in ski-out.

Jamie Whittaker provided excellent customer service. She helped me pick the best unit for our needs.

I also loved the effortless check-in and check-out. No waiting at the front desk in line!

Thanks so much for everything. I will definitely be using Blackcomb Peaks for all my trips to Whistler in the future.

Room Tip: Use Blackcomb Peaks to book your condo.

We arrived in Whistler on New Year's Eve and were a little disappointed to not be able to join the party as you needed to have bought tickets to get into the fenced off area in the square where the live band was playing. Despite that however we had a great week and as always we found the Aspens convenient for skiing and comfortable for our family of 4. We have stayed there many times before and don't hesitate to recommend it. The units are variable in the way they are stocked however as they are privately owned, but they have always been comfortable and very clean. In terms of general areas, we enjoyed watching the Canucks on the big screen in the TV lounge, we appreciated the enormous snowman, but I agree - the jacuzzi should be hotter!! The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful when we needed to deal with them. All in all, we'll be going back next time we're in Whistler.
