We booked the Summit Lodge through Whistler.com Secret Suites. It told us that the hotel had a 4 star rating when we found it online. We were surprised at how reasonable the cost was for a 4 star hotel so we took a risk not knowing what hotel it was and booked.
We arrived in Whistler around 5pm on Friday (check-in time is 4pm). When we arrived, we were greeted by very friendly and helpful front desk staff. Upon entering our room, we found that it had not yet been cleaned from the last guests. So back down we went and spoke with the concierge who immediately upgraded us to a junior suite because of our inconvience. Upon entering our new room, we found that it also had not been cleaned from the last guests. So back down to the concierge we went. The general manager who was there at the time and the front desk staff were very apologetic and helpful. They immediately upgraded us to a one bedroom king executive suite on the top floor. In addition, they gave us our $19/night parking for free and sent a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine to our room. We entered our room and were relieved to find that it was clean.
The room had a fully equipped kitchenette, very comfortable king size bed, two balconies (one off the bedroom and one off the living room), fireplace and a fair size bathroom (big enough for two people to get ready in). One television in the bedroom and one television in the living room. The view was nice with an unobstructed view of the mountains. The room was a litle outdated, not the most modern but was still very comfortable.
Our only complaint about the room was that it took quite a while to warm up and the fireplace wasn't working. When we told the front desk, they offerered to move us to a new room to which we declined. Instead they gave us free breakfast vouchers to Elements restaurant (which is one of our favorite breakfast places in Whistler).
The hotel was in a convenient location, no more than 5-10 minutes walking distance from the Village centre, restaurants, shopping, groceries. If you have pets, this is a pet friendly hotel.
The best part of our visit to the Summit Lodge was the service we received from staff!! They went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was comfortable. The day we were checking out, we planned to do some shopping in the village before heading out to the Scandinave Spa to spend our afternoon/evening. The hotel allowed us to keep our car parked in their lot until 4pm for our convenience.
Upon checkout, there was a slight communication mixup regarding payment between Whistler.com and the Summit Lodge. Because our booking was a Secret Suites booking, our payment was non refundable and our confirmation stated that our payment had been taken at the time of the online booking. When we checked out from the Summit Lodge, the front desk advised us that the payment had not been taken and they needed to take it upon checkout. A phone call to Whistler.com cleared up the mixup and payment was made upon checkout. Whistler.com was misleading in their booking confirmation but we got the impression that the Summitt Lodge was not doing what other hotels on Whistler.com were doing (which was take payment from them not us). The front desk manager was apologetic and gave us her business card telling us to book directly through her next time we stayed at the Summit Lodge.
All in all, a decent hotel in a convenient location at a reasonable price for Whistler. The staff was wonderful, friendly and went above and beyond to help us in any way possible. If we were to stay at the Summitt Lodge again, it would be because of the service we received, not because of the hotel itself.
