“Super instructors.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

Wow! Our 9 year old had a blast and was so excited by her day of skiing, we forked out for another. The instructors were excellent with the kids, learning their names almost instantly and teaching them whilst having a great time. Although pricey (over $200 per day for beginners), the care, meals and tuition are worth it.

“It all depends on the teacher, the day and your child.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2012

Our family is, basically, novice skiiers. We could not take advantage of the week long school offered at Whistler Kids (more consistency than getting the school on a day to day basis) because we didn't arrive on a Monday. But our 2 kids were signed up for 3 consecutive days of classes. It all depends on the teacher, the day and the child.
Day One: Our 7 year old had a great time, played with new friends and graduated through Level One. Our 11 year old had a horrible day. He was grouped with kids much younger, moved at a pace too slow for him, had no real friends to meet and was numb and blank-faced when we picked him up in the afternoon.
Day Two - our 7 year old had friends and a great teacher but, basically, refused to advance. No fault of the school. He fell a few times, over-complained about his knees and the ski patrol brought him down. After a more thorough exam at the Health Clinic, it was clear nothing was wrong with him. It was his way of saying "I don't like this." But the school staff was top-notch professional. Our 11 year old had an OK day. He was with older kids and enjoyed his teacher.
Day Three - Our 11 year old had an AMAZING day on Day 3! He made friends, skiied a lot, advanced into Level 3 and is now wanting to ski all the time. Our 7 year old basically quit. Again, no fault of the school. He kept falling down, complaining about pain in his ankles, knees, etc. (Hear the tune, "Head, shoulder knees and toes, knees and toes!") and the school brought him down again in the ski patrol because he was lower on the mountain than the Kid's Zone. All the patrol and ground staff at whistler kids were very pleasant, very professional.

Bravo to the flaik.com system used by the school. Our 11 year old can go online, see where he skiied, how fast, how far, at what elevation. Perfect for sports statistics lovers.

Basically, it is luck of the draw and depends on each child, each teacher. Whistler Kids, by and large, tries it's best to make each day a good experience. Even though our experience was not perfect, it served our purpose and we feel we got our money's worth. We would consider doing private lessons, now, but the school helped us get launched.

“Poor Customer Service Ruined our Snow School Experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

The Front Desk staff was so rude and unhelpful that I left with a very negative impression of the Snow School. We arrived in the evening and went to the School at 8:00 am as directed on the website -- they were completely sold out and the staff was unhelpful in discussing options for later in the week -- they just wanted me out of the line.
I was able to get a lesson later in the week and after 2 days of boarding on his own, my 11-year old son was reluctant to take a class that seemed geared to younger kids. I assured him there would be some other tweens and older kids -- since they put the kids in classes by ability level, there was a 4-year age span in his class which I wasn't thrilled about. As we stood in line to check-in with the instructor, there was a 12-year old girl ahead of us, the Snow School staff looked at her and said "You are in the wrong area -- you need to go to the Ride Tribe (teen program) and the parents pointed out that she was 12 years old. The instructor said "Wow! You are a giant. I don't know if I can even put a bib on you." That was incredibly insensitive -- I can assure you that no tall 12-year old girl wants to be called "a giant." As far as my son (next in line) was concerned, for him, this was a sign that he was also not welcome and promptly told me he wasn't going to go. I did force him to go and he liked his instructor but for me the experience was substandard -- the hassle of dealing with the Front Desk and then the check-in person soured me on the experience.

“Four y/o first time - very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2012

Excellent work with our four year old, possibly the class size was a little large for kiddies in the magic carpet park. Lots of time sitting between runs for each child. But overall excellent with the day free for the adults to ski away with no worries.
