I've stayed at this hotel a few times in the past, always off season, but am here for July long weekend and have been extremely impressed by the hotel and felt the need to write a review!
All the staff in this hotel without an exception have been very friendly and helpful. Exemplary service! Check in was fantastic. they have flavoured water so you can refresh yourself while standing in line (water with cranberries and oranges in it!).
We arrived too early for dinner, so went to Mallard Lounge and had some appetizers. They have a wide variety of drinks, and a lovely ambience. The hotel is done up in sort of alpine heritage style. It gives the feeling of being old and historic even though it is relatively new.
Food was excellent, as was service. This hotel is pricey ($17 for sandwich) but every thing is delicious. Had turkey bacon club with cranberry sauce on top, it was fantastic. on different occasion had ribs ($27) which were tasty, came with coleslaw- this was the healtiest colseslaw ever, it had dried cranberries and some seeds mixed in.
Beds are very comfortable. Toiletry products are rose-scented, very nice!
Room was very clean. Housekeeping was excellent.
I recommend having the afternoon Tea. This is $32/ person, also in the Mallard Lounge.
This gets you serving of berries, scone with cream and jam (AMAZING!), little sandwiches - cucumber and watercress, and pastries, and your choice of tea (they have a good selection). The scone was the best thing i have eaten in a while!
We enjoyed the pool and work out area of the hotel. It is a family friendly resort, so pool was usually filled with children all hours. It was especially crowded and busy as it was July long weekend. However, they have 3 hot tubs so usually there was room to be found somewhere. Also, there is a lap pool which was fantastic.
Staff were working extremely hard to keep the area clean which was difficult given the number of guests and how many towels people were leaving all over the place, paper cups, etc.
I was impressed by the amenities they offered. they had sunscreen SPF 30 on hand if you forgot yours. Also, 4 flavours of chilled water available- cucumber, orange, lemon, strawberry!
There is a dry sauna and also a steam sauna inside the change rooms. Good number of shower stalls.
The hotel staff were also very helpful with all sorts of advice and travel tips. We borrowed umbrellas on a rainy day. They lent my mother a ski pole to walk with as her mobility isn't great.
My only criticism of this hotel is the cost of extras such as valet parking- $39 over night. If you self park, it is $35. Also, internet is $13/ 24 hours if you are guest of hotel. I think the parking is crazy overpriced, and they really should have wifi for everyone. It seems stingy to charge for this since most people are paying hundreds of dollars a night to stay here.
Otherwise, very impressed with everyone at this hotel. Front of house staff, housekeeping, resturant servers, bell boys, concierge. A+++ for everyone. I'll be coming back soon!
If you want a quiet room, don't get one facing the pool, esp on long weekends. you will be subje...
