My family and I have stayed at sparkling hill numerous times and loved it. That's why we return! Front desk is not always chipper but for the most part the are informative and helpful. Check in and out is painless although sometimes you wait, but when they are that busy what else can you expect. The saunas and steams are to die for!!! I recommend staying at least 2 nights so you can do a whole day of just spa. Follow the rules and guidelines, lots of water, hot sauna then something cooler. And please please please go swim outside in the infinity pool looking over the mountains and lake! Now, the dining areas are perfect. Breakfast is extensive, more then anyone could as for from a comp breakfast. Juices, "make your own cereals", yogurt, fresh fruit, scones, muffins, cold cuts, smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers, eggs, sausage and hash... And to top it off, if you ask for a loaded omelette or poached egges or anything... They never say no!!! I personally know of one of the service staff driving 20mins each way to vernon to get avocados because a guest requested them :) that makes me happy. Lunch, is fast, so good and unique. And u have 2 options, either a more casual Barrique and Java with soups and sammy's (the soups is always unbelievable, I believe the chef is Inna... Such love on the plate) or Peakfine which is more fine and breathtaking. Dinner is always a treat, the menu changes every night and there is always something for everyone. We have dined there enough that we have gotten to know the staff a bit and have come to realize that the chef has changed over the years. I have to say that the executive chef now is fantastic, the food tastes great. but one thing we can say is that they need to work on the plating. We have noticed a change in portion and plating. The portions are a really decent size now but the plate isn't as beautiful. He needs to remember that food is as much tasty as is its art. The plates lack a little of finesse that they used to. The details are still there in the first courses but the mains are really getting messy. They taste great, again, but they aren't always as inviting which I think is something that can set a place apart from the rest. And as for the dessert... Its usually great but the portions are small and sometimes the size or wow'ness will vary from night to night. Its like there is someone different running the pastry area on each night and not making sure its consistent. Its amazing how something as simple as the apple strudle or ice cream can taste so different each time. One day its to die for and the next day its nothing to write home about. I don't get it. Get your chefs on the smae recipe, maybe, cuz when its good its soooooo good. Now... I need to rave about the service, enough about food, what has made my stay everytime is the service. I love that I feel like I'm at home, or important and special. Its the little things. We have a couple servers regularly that we have come to love! During the day there are only a few we have come to adore, Christina (who is new, well since our previous stays) is so friendly and accommodating, Ashley(who has been there since the get go) is incredibly knowledgeable and pretty well bends over backwards for her guests and she never fails to remember how I like my coffee (extremely hot with a thing of steamed milk and honey), and Niko... We don't even know where to begin with him (he is a great character with a sparkling smile) but seek him out he will make your day in Barrique outstanding! At night there aren't too many server's we know anymore and to be honest we don't care much the ones we do know are enough... We have had one server pretty well every stay and we love her. What continues to wow me is how she comes to us and is genuinely curious how we are and honestly excited to see us. She is someone we will never forget. And I know we aren't the only ones that feel that way. I have been sitting having dinner and overheard other guest say hello or address her like they know her from a previous visit! That's amazing! Who doesn't want to come into a resort and feel vip just by being recognized by a staff member. Not too mention being asked about a trip we were taking months before!!! That's impressive, to remember me out of thousands of guest. I guess it would only be fair to mention though that during most our stays we have had her as our server for sunday night, monday breakfast and then lunch in barrique... So I guess we are bias. She's our girl! I will be back Ashley... And I will be checking if you've tried that cold sauna yet!!! So, bottom line, try this resort I'm sure you will find your very own "Ashley" that will continue to blow you away each visit!!!
