I stayed here for three nights in a studio suite. This included a full kitchen and all sorts of equipment/utensils. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable (the bed was really comfy) - but the decor very dated. (I am not sure why some reviewers think this is an 'English country style' - it is a jumble of poor paint effects/colours, flowery fabrics and fake flowers, with no style at all! - But just ignore it as everything else is fine!)
The room looked out over the road to the park, but there was little noise audiable from either the road or other guests. The location was perfect for getting an early morning greyhound bus up island. It was also next door to museums, IMAX, government buildings and a short stroll to the inner harbour and Empress hotel, where many tours start out. The staff were very helpful and offered a friendly, prompt service.
Good to know: It costs $18 from the airport with the shuttle bus and they stop right outside. There is no elevator. Tea, coffee, cream, sugar, salt and detergent were provided - but these do not seem to be replaced. There was free wifi available in the room and the guest laundry was only $1.50 a load, so great for planning and preparing for my trip up island. Be aware that there is a lack of grocery stores downtown. I found one convenience store which sold limited processed products and one health food store. I couldn't really maximise the kitchen facilities as a result. Perhaps with a longer stay and a car, I could have found a supermarket.
Overall, it was a great find and would be great value for two or more people wishing to self-cater downtown; or solo/budget-minded travellers wanting a spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation to relax and prepare for onward adventures, without blowing their budget.
