This was our second stay in Victoria and we chose the Helms again because we were so pleased with the first stay. The rooms and very spacious and clean and have been completely redecorated. The staff is friendly and helpful and the location is great. We will certainly choose the Helms again if we return to Victoria.

This was our second time to stay at Helms Inn. The units were remodeled recently and we love the updated decor and flat screen tv.The staff was very helpful. Chris, the manager, even helped us get our luggage to our room. We stayed 3 nights and it was home away from home for us. We had a one bedroom suite with king bed. The bed filled the bedroom but there was still enough room to maneuver. The closets were in the living and kitchen area, but that was no problem. The bathroom was very roomy and clean. This hotel is a real gem and the location is perfect. It's close to all of the happenings along the harbor, but far enough away from them to be cozy and quiet. There is a grocery and liquor store within walking distance. I love to walk and wander the neighborhood of James Bay. It's filled with beautiful old homes and lots of history. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Be aware that there are 3 buildings and only the building housing the lobby has an elevator. The mid...

We stayed at the Helm's Inn for four nights. The location is great. Easy walking distance to most of the downtown attractions. We had a suite in the middle building on the ground floor with a nice patio which we would have used if the weather had been nicer. The room was nice and clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful in answering questions. If you come in by ferry, you're only two blocks from the city bus which goes out to Butchart Gardens for $2.50 one way. A great value. We would definitely stay here if we come back again.

Got a king studio suite for a very reasonable price. Room was nicer than the photos, comfy and had a small view. Full kitchen, very good location (we walked to just about everything), really welcoming hotel staff. We thought it would be a "good deal for the cost" type hotel, but there were so many nice little things: the kitchen had salt & pepper packets (doesn't seem like a biggie but was appreciated!), lobby had a fireplace, they had free loaner umbrellas, they had a guest computer and let us print out boarding passes for free. This in addition to the room having updated, clean and comfortable furnishings, down to the kitchen cabinets.

ONLY thing we found disagreeable was that the sheets were VERY starchy. Totally worth it & we would stay again easily & happily!

This hotel is a gem. It is right by Beacon Hill Park, downtown and the harbour. I came with my husband and toddler son and was very surprised at how large the room was. Our room included a kitchen with a full size fridge. The staff is extremely helpful and we will stay here every time we come to Victoria.

Room Tip: The hotel is older so if you are sensitive to noise from the floors above, ask for a room on the top...

We stayed at Helm's Inn because of the rave reviews received on Trip Advisor. The inside of the hotel is NOTHING like the outside....completely re-done in new modern decor. It was GREAT to have a full kitchen in the room. Breakfast in Victoria is expensive, so it was nice to be able to walk 4 blocks to the grocery store to pick up cereal and fruit for breakfast. The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking and eating utensils...very nice.

That being said...the one downfall is that we did not sleep much the first night...street noise coupled with the noise of slamming doors (not anyone's fault...you just cannot close the room doors silently--they stick a bit so you have to pull hard to get them to close) kept us from getting much sleep. The next day I noticed an oscillating fan in the closet, so that night we ran the fan as well as the fan in the wall unit A/C to drown out the noise and we slept great.

The front desk staff was very friendly. We loved both restaurants that we visited per their recommendation. We were within walking distance of downtown (10 minutes) and right across the street from Beacon Hill Park (my kids held and fed baby ducklings and brushed up against a peacock in all his splendor). We walked the park all the way to the end and sat on a big rock jutting out into the ocean...magnificent.

I would definitely stay here again if traveling on a budget and with kids (which we were this time). If it were my husband and I on a romantic getaway, I might choose one of the fancy-schmancy places downtown.

Room Tip: Definitely worth it to ask for a room near the back where there will be less street noise. If none...

Rarely can I say a hotel is perfect, but here it is. Helm's Inn is perfectly situated between the Royal BC Museum and Beacon Hill Park. It is a better price than can usually be found so close to the Inner Harbor. The rooms are big, with good plumbing, quiet, and a kitchenette. I paid a good price for everything I want in a hotel room, with none of the unwanted frills that just drive up the room price. We stayed for five nights in May, and found great restaurants and the Inner Harbor close by. Beacon Hill Park, which is highly recommended, is right across the street. I almost did not write this review, for fear that if it becomes better known, there won't be a room for me the next time we go to Victoria.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard.
