“Great fresh sushi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We dined here for a friends birthday and the food was excellent. This was our first time but likely not our last. Service was excellent.

Clean, busy, friendly and great food. Wasn't much that we disliked. It's worth a try if in the area.

“Fresh Fish !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

I commonly order delivery. Akemi truly is one of the best sushi restaurants on the Westshore. Delivery minimum is a bit high at $35 and limited area but they will go further for promise of a larger tip to the driver. Fish Is consistently high quality, firm and fresh. Love the steak sauce and when it was forgotten on my delivery they did not hesitate to give me a credit. Atmosphere is clean and up to date , tidy appearance. Prices are on the high side.

“Has to be the best Japanese food in Victoria!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Second time I have been to Akemi Sushi – was great the first time too! First time was had a family friend from Japan that had been living in London England for years. She had commented how she could not get good Japanese food in London – that the fish was never fresh. So we figured we'd take her for some Japanese food while we she was here. All the way through the meal she was commenting ‘This is good food’. She really wanted us to know that the Japanese food was authentic and very good by her standards.

I challenge any other Japanese food restaurant in Victoria to be better than these guys.

There were three of us.

Really nice green tea.

Outside the dessert and drink issues (see the very end of my bit), the meal was incredible. I think this would have to be some of the best Japanese food I’ve ever had (been to sushi restaurants more than 100 times over the years).

We ordered the Supreme boat for two (Miso Soup, Sunomono Salad, Assorted Tempura, Sashimi, Sushi), Special Sushi (1 homosaki & 9 pcs of nigri) and a Caterpillar Roll (cream cheese, prawn tempura, cucumber, avocado on top)

Since there were three of use but we had ordered the Supreme boat for two they brought us a third Miso Soup and a third Sunomono Salad.

First course was the Miso Soup. It was excellent.
Then came the Sunomono Salad. It was excellent.
Third course was the Assorted Tempura - they made sure there was three of everything there as well and it was AWESOME.
Fourth course! Bring on the 'boat'! Wooden boat about 24 inches long - GREAT PRESENTATION - with a huge assortment of nigiri (I think there were 6 or 7 different types and three of each type) and sashmi (9 different types [tuna, salmon, octopus, scallop, snapper, squid, shrimp, surf clam, mackerel] with 3 to 4 slices of each)
At the same time we also got the Special Sushi and a Caterpillar Roll - the Special Sushi was a nigiri of each of the tuna, salmon, octopus, scallop, snapper, squid, shrimp, surf clam, mackerel and a roll of your choice of salmon, tuna, scallop, avocado or cucumber - we chose tuna.
The Caterpillar Roll was... well it looked like a caterpillar :) - very cute. It has ripe avocado showing yellow, green, yellow, green, yellow, green all the way down the back of the roll. Then has a prawn tempura inside it.

The food was an absolute HOME-RUN!

What didn't work for me was that they were serving fountain pop and they charged for a refill. This was/is really cheap and was disappointing to see.

Also, even though their menu had a great number of varied desserts - they had only a Teardrop Mango Smoothie (tear dropped shaped combo of cake and custard) or ice cream in stock. We ordered one mango smoothie and shared – none of us liked the dessert. It was very disappointing and I would not order it again. It looked good on presentation but had nothing to back up the flair.

When it came time to pay… and pay we did. $115 for the meal, $129.95 after taxes, $150 after tip – and it was worth every penny!
There are definitly cheaper options available – but we had a LOT of food. But is was GOOD and I’d have no problem doing it again – less the dessert.
