“Lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Our room was attractive, comfortable and clean; the location was great; the staff was helpful and polite. We were walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants, museums.

The concierge answered all our questions.

Location

The Marriott is just over a block away behind the Empress Hotel/Convention Center bus station at the heart of the Inner Harbour (which has buses that run to YVR via the BC Ferry), and a pedestrian walkway cuts across the intervening block for easy access to the Convention Center and the waterfront. It's also just off the main highway and has available parking. A few minutes' walk gets one to key sights, but the hotel is far enough to be quiet.

Rooms

Although the Marriott is housed in a modern building, it was a pleasant surprise that the rooms had a Victorian feel in the choice of wallpaper, drapes, lamps and furniture. It gave the rooms a sense of place instead of the usual generic hotel room one gets anywhere in the world. But the modern conveniences were there-- extra plugs for charging a typical road warrior's gadgets at desk-level, Wi Fi and wired internet, and so on, along with other conveniences one expects at a Marriott.

Dining

Breakfast was not included in my rate, but the breakfast and meals I tried at the Fire & Water Fish and Chophouse were delicious, although not for those on a tight budget. They have different specials each day, it seems, and the restaurant in my view is worth dining at even if one is not staying at the hotel. But for a change of pace, one may opt to walk over to the Empress for breakfast sometime-- the price points are similar, but the setting is gorgeously old-fashioned.

Service

Service is warm, welcoming, and helpful. The concierges are friendly and knowledgeable and can book you for tours (with hotel pick-up included) or point you in the right direction to the various attractions and dining options.

Extras

There is a mini-mart for necessities next to the front desk. A key plus for those on an extended trip is the self-service laundry.

Overall a good choice, with everything that you expect for this type of hotel, with a few nice surprises thrown in.

Our room being ready, we were able to check into the Marriott, Victoria at midday. The staff were friendly and efficient.

The room was spacious and beautifully decorated with old fashioned furnishings. The king size bed was very comfortable and we slept very soundly. The double layered gowns were just gorgeous and you felt very indulgent when wrapped up in one. There were plenty of towels available.

A big tick for having an electric kettle but the big chunky mugs are not suitable for tea. The free internet was adequate but did drop out regularly.

What lets the hotel down, and would probably make me book elsewhere next time is the absence of a fridge! It’s the middle of summer and there is no fridge in the room just a weighted bar! A mini fridge can be bought to your room upon request but come on Marriott get your act together a fridge is a basic necessity in a hotel room! We’ve found in our travels that even the most basic hotels in Canda have a fridge!

We didn’t eat at the restaurant but the barman obligingly served us late night drinks. Beers were very reasonably priced.

The nearby Chateau Victoria Hotel and Suites has a complimentary bus that drops its customers to the nearby bus station, clipper terminal etc. The Marriott should also do this – it’s a nice touch! Quickly worth the initial outlay I’m sure.

Our check out the next day was swift as we only needed to pay a bar bill. However, I’d have to say that the elevators were extremely slow and it would be nice to have stairs available to use. It was not clear if the fire stairs were able to be used – I was scared a fire alarm would sound if I opened the door.

This is our second time to spend a week at the Marriott Inner Harbor. As before, everything is outstanding! The staff is terrific and the Executive Lounge excellent. If you're a Marriott elite traveler, request Lounge floor. The hotel was convenient to everything.

This hotel was perfect for our long girls weekend! My Mother, Sister and I shared a room with two double beds and had requested a roll away bed. Check in was excellent! Jon did a great job of verifying our reservation and ensuring we would get the roll away. He even gave us some amazing dinner recommendations a couple nights later. Nautical Nellies was FANTASTIC for dinner!! The breakfast in the morning was great. Ordered off the menu and also enjoyed the buffet. Love the scrambled eggs. Oliver was a great help and very friendly, though we chose to self park our vehicle. Had lunch and a cocktail at the restaurant one afternoon and it was delicious! My mother and I shared a sandwich and fries and the portion was perfect to do that. Rachel was our waiter and she was so friendly and full of advice and recommendations for our ventures in the city. I will say that our favorite part was the location of this hotel. We walked EVERYWHERE! Perfect!! We spent 5 days in Victoria and I still feel like there is more to do, cant wait to go back! My ONLY negative is that we had to reconnect all of our devices to the wifi each day, a little annoying, but no biggie. Wouldn't stop me from coming back here.

Spent 4 days (3 nights) here this past weekend.

Marriott Platinum member, and was NOT greeted as such when I arrived! Not good (anonymous named desk clerk)...

We had an issue right off the bat with using my points for 2 of the nights, and cash for the other. The Desk clerk spent way too long trying to figure it out, and it was still wrong. By the time I checked out, I was surprised to see they had actually done it right.

One of the Bell Men, needs a lesson in tact. Asked us, very rudely, to leave the lobby with our glass of wine we had "just" bought at the bar, and were headed to our room with it! We took a sip, and got the heavy handed "ask" to leave immediately.

Food was good, and priced close to the restaurants in town (expensive, based on my budget). Also, the chef / cook needs to pay a little more attention to details, as they messed up orders on more then one occasion, but the food was pretty good.

The Concierge Lounge was closed for the weekend, but they did offer a Points Credit for it NOT being open. When it did open they were not so friendly, they did not have their honor bar out, you had to ask for them to bring something out. They were overly serious about signing in and signing out... They forget that most of the folks hitting the lounge are professional / regular travelers, and are NOT trying to pull anything over on them. They made it seem NOT so friendly of a stay. Also, were intent on reminding us that we could NOT take our kids in to the Lounge without paying for them... It's about the delivery of the message!

The rooms were pretty small! The two Double Beds made it very difficult to sleep 4 comfortably., plus with all our suff, there wasn't much room left to move around.

They attempted to make accommodations, but seems forced and not like they wanted to really help.

Upon checkout, still no mention of Thanking me for being a Marriott Platinum member. Hey, I spent lots of nights away from home for this, and want the little bit of thanks for doing it!!!

I will explore other hotel options, should I make it to Victoria again, any time soon.

Room Tip: The free wifi was bad, was NOT fast at all. Not sure about the paid WiFi. Upper rooms on the sou...

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in the middle of a longer holiday in British Columbia and the US.

The hotel is great, and the staff is wonderful. Even though we only stayed for two night we immediately felt like home. Great location in the inner harbor and close to everything, big and clen room. Thumps for a great experience at the Marriott Inner Harbor.
