“Pretty and low-key”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

A good alternative to the commercial gardens made all the more enjoyable by the house that is converted to a tea house. Only about 10 min by bus from downtown so an easy trip.

“What a love story!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

This is an extraordinary garden, created by a romantic couple who devoted their lives to this beautiful setting. In March you can really see the bones of the plantings, the modest house that they lived in, and the rocky foundation that they made to bloom with an interesting array of plants/shrubs and trees. Absolutely delightful!

“Tranquil oasis”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

The appeal of the Abkhazi Garden is that it is not a big showplace, but a garden kept very much as its original owners and designers intended. I was there with a group, in spring, when the blossoming trees and early flowers were coming out, and on a sunny day, so really saw it at its best. I've also been at other times of year, and there is always something to see, but it is not a big showy garden. More in the style of an Asian garden, with the focus on shape and contrast of light and shade. The little restaurant offers very good teas and light lunches. The pathways have been improved, and although they are still rather rough, they are negotiable for a wheelchair. There is also a good gift shop. It is seasonal, and I don't think they open much in the winter. Our group had booked a tour, but ended up going around by ourselves, as the docent was running late. Bear in mind that most of the people who work here are volunteers, so this sort of thing can happen. The manager gave us a good brief history of the garden, and for the rest it was fairly self-explanatory.

“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

the gardens are nice enough. I was a little disappointed by what I saw but maybe that had something to do with the season. I don't need to go back.

“Didn't see because closed when say they are open.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

The website, all fliers and ads, and the sign posted on their chained and locked gate all say they are open 7 days a week. Call their number and the voicemail says they are open and leave them a message so they can get right back to you. They called us back 24 hours later to inform us that they are only open Wednesday through Saturday, and they couldn't imagine how we thought they were open on a Monday!
