We returned to Fairholme Manor for our 10-year anniversary--our first visit was for our honeymoon and we had been looking forward to returning ever since. We were not disappointed. The rooms and grounds were as beautiful, the breakfasts as delicious, and Sylvia's hospitality as warm as we remembered. As wonderful as the Fairholme Manor experience was 10 years ago, Sylvia does not rest on her laurels. Things are not exactly the same as they were 10 years ago--nor should they be. She has updated and refreshed along the way, maintaining an elegant and serene environment that is warm and inviting.
We stayed in the Olympic Grand and the Penthouse Suite. Both are second-floor rooms with views of the Olympic Mountains in the distance. The Olympic Grand, located in the main building, has gorgeous high ceilings and a private terrace. It gets lots of wonderful natural light and feels so luxurious and romantic. The Penthouse Suite is located in the part of the building that looks like a later addition and it does not have the grand ceiling height but it also gets lots of natural light and feels like such a private oasis. The Penthouse has views of the mountains and both Sylvia's beautiful gardens and those of Government House next door. The Penthouse Suite has a separate living room, bedroom, and kitchen, giving it the feeling of your own private apartment in Victoria. These are our 2 favorite rooms at Fairholme Manor--but all are beautiful, tastefully decorated and adorned with fresh flowers from the garden.
Sylvia's gourmet breakfasts are not only beautiful to look at--they are so delicious! Both ends of the "B" & "B" experience are top-notch at Fairholme Manor. What completes the experience is Sylvia and Ross's warm hospitality. Their local area advice is so helpful. Sylvia didn't simply recommend Brasserie L'Ecole for dinner--she advised us to go straight there from our whale-watching trip to put our names on the list and then return for a shower before heading back out to dinner. This worked out perfectly. If we had come back to our room first to get cleaned up and then returned to the restaurant, we would've had to wait a long time for a table! Sylvia also recommended Sen Zushi for sushi--we enjoyed it so much we dined there twice!
The Fairholme Manor experience is a special one. We met many loyal repeat visitors. We wish we lived closer so we can also visit more often. Hopefully, it won't be another 10 years before we make it back! Fairholme Manor is gracious living--a must-stay when visiting Vancouver Island!
