“Overrated and overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Although advertised that you are expected to be dressed nicer, i saw people wearing runners, sweat pants and T-shirts. Was surprised to see that it's actually tea bags brewed, not loose tea leafs.Service was very poor - very slow and unefficient. The best of all (the only good thing about this experience) was live music (a pianist playing lovely tunes). I won't come again. Sorry.

“Not worth time or money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

Super overprice. The food is cold - they prepare tons of the plates ahead of time and leave them out waiting for customers.

Nice ambiance but way too expensive. Starbucks is better quality. I went once and will never go again. Just one of those things you feel you have to do, but I felt cheated because you do not get what you paid for.

“Pricey - But Worth It”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

I wrote my review under the hotel vs. restaurant, so I won't repeat it all here (look under Fairmont Empress Hotel for more details). Here I will simply say this is an experience you should not pass up if you appreciate elegance and tradition. Service is impeccable, the ambiance is elegant, the food was delicious and the experience was memorable. Cut corners elsewhere to include this in your vacation budget. We had the high tea, plus 2 glasses of Proseco and it set us back about $160, including tip, for 2 people. But it's High Tea...at the historical Fairmont...in lovely Victria BC, so go ahead and splurge!

“If afternoon tea is your thing!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

It is almost compulsory for well-heeled tourists to have tea at the Empress....even if it is not afternoon. A vast selection of swett and savouries in a room that is more like a very wide hallway but very well appointed costs a lot. There are lots of teas offered in Victoria, but the Empress is the Empress.

“Very overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

A friend visited us a few years ago and insisted on taking us for high tea at the Empress. We tried to dissuade her but ended up going. Point-no-point has a very good tea with excellent views, a lovely setting for a walk afterwards and is much cheaper.
