“Orcas galore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

My wife and I pre-booked this attraction as part of the trip organised on our behalf by Trailfinders. We dropped in the day before just to touch base and the friendly, smiling girl immediately welcomed us by name and assured us that all was arranged. We turned up next day and were escorted to the boat with the explanation that there would be an hour's sail to where the Orca pod was thought to be. In the event, the time passed quickly because the two well-informed guides plied us with information about whales, the trip, the area - everything of interest. We saw lots of Orcas. They were pretty well spread out over a wide area and capturing them on camera or camcorder took a bit of fast thinking and camera agility but we had more than an hour on site and it was a very successful trip. Everything was extremely professionally carried out to the extent that the captain ascertained that everybody was happy to have a slightly extended stay on location. Good value for money.

“Waste of Time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

This outfit just caused us to waste a big chunk of our (limited, and highly valuable to us) day in Victoria. At about 1pm we were told by Girl "A" the afternoon "big boat" was leaving at 2:30pm, rather than the regularly-scheduled 2:00 (no reason given). So we show up at 2:05, and the boat is gone. Girl "B" told us the boat left on time at 2:00, and seemed surprised to hear about the 2:30 time. Granted, we did not make a reservation since we planned to check out other vendors before committing to Great Pacific, but Girl "A" had said the boat was lightly reserved, and it would not be a problem. At any rate, with the boat gone, we were left with the choice of taking a much later boat with another vendor that would get us back after dinner time, or waiting until the next day. This is pretty basic: if you tell customers something, then stick with it. This was really lame IMO.

“Baby killer whale jumping out of the water!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

I called a day before to Five Star Whale Watching (another whale watching company) and booked a trip with 4 people for 2pm on a Sunday. We got discounted prices for two senior adults. When we got to Five Star Whale Watching, they informed us they were putting us and 10 other customers, on a boat they shared with Great Pacific Adventures. Ultimately, the crew, captain and boat were from Great Pacific Adventures. We set off on a clear but gray day on time. We were the last ones on board so we did not manage to get seats upstairs and sat inside downstairs. We were assured we would definitely get to go upstairs as people would be tired of sitting in the wet and cold and would naturally come down (this was true). After a bumpy and nauseating ride out on a decent sized boat (we were so thankful to be sitting inside! it was a wild ride if it was upstairs), our captain located two pods of resident killer whales (K and J).
At first, the pods were far away but they soon came closer. We saw a baby killer whale (less than one years old) jumping out of the water several times! Our boat had a cool underwater microphone and we could hear them calling out to each other which was amazing. The whales came so close to the boat, they dived right under us. It was a great, almost surreal experience to be around such big, fantastic creatures.
The crew members were also extremely helpful. They knew a lot about the whales and provided good company. They had complimentary hot chocolate, tea and water which helped a lot for people who were feeling cold and queasy. They also had books talking about whales and specifically, the Vancouver Island whales (transient and resident whales) which we had fun trying to identify with the pictures we just took.
Overall, we were all very satisfied with this whale tour, even my grandparents who sat inside the boat the whole time. It really is an experience for everyone in the family.

“Great customer service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

We went out on the morning of 7 June and were back at base within an hour due to the weather conditions. Staff dealt with everyone sympathically and efficiently. Many people rebooked for the afternoon - with a promise that a decision would be made before departure as to whether the conditions had improved sufficiently. We were unable to commit to the afternoon and were refunded without quibble.
Hugely disappointed that our trip was curtailed but feel the decision to turn back was the right one and very happy with the customer service.

“Lots of whales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012 via mobile

On our first attempt to go out go in the morning we ended up being taken back to shore as conditions were not good. The staff apologised. We were immediately offered alternatives. We then went out later that afternoon. We saw several pods of orcas and did not feel rushed. Thank you guys for a great experience I would not hesitate to recommend you.
