“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

I booked one night at the hotel for my visit to Victoria. Room was to be available at 3pm but when we reached at 2pm they were all ready for us! Front office staff are very friendly and helpful - don't hesitate to ask them anything
Room was tiny but clean and very comfortable. Only negatives were the fact that we had no view since the room was facing the back and the walls were very thin so you could hear everything going on in the next room! Yet I had no issues getting a good night's sleep.
They have a variety to of restaurants / pubs in-house with a great crowd on a Friday night at least. And all the noise from those busy pubs somehow don't reach up to the rooms :)
Best part of th hotel was its proximity to the inner harbour - just a 2 minute walk and you are right in the middle of all the attractions of Victoria!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the road

I booked the Strathcona for the occasion of a nearby rugby tournament. The rugbymen that I travelled with were incledulous that I would stay in a hotel that houses a loud pub/restaurant (the Sticky Wicket) and a nightclub in the same building.
It was the best night's sleep that I have ever had in a hotel.
A thick memory foam cushion on the queen-sized bed and amazing pillows were the reasons. Also, my room was incredibly quiet.
The breakfast was well-done with muffins, waffles and the like. Good, strong coffee and orange juice served in the Wicket, which was surprisingly clean considering the festivities of the previous evening.
Please note that this is a downtown hotel, not a Grande Dame restored to her former glory.
If you want to be in the center of things and have a good night's sleep - this is a great place to stay.

This is a small, property with a great location, older, but neat, clean, great service, great price and great value. Our room was on the 4th floor, with a nice view. There were several restaurants and interesting bars in the hotel, though we were too busy exploring to enjoy them. Breakfast was adequate.

This is an older hotel in the heart of downtown Victoria. It is located near all the cool stuff to do in Victoria and is cost effective. We liked this place and would stay here again. Based on the cost effectiveness of the property we were wondering what we were in for but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was small but clean and had a nice bed and was all that we could have hoped for. Based on reviews from TripAdvisor we asked for a room at the back of the hotel when we checked in which worked out very well to lessen the nighttime noise. We could hear noise in the hallways on occasion but nothing unbearable.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for the cost conscious person or couple who want to be located within walking distance of downtown Victoria.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up and at the back of the building when checking in.

Very classical looking foyer and rooms. Friendly staff, parking nearby at reasonable price. Food and bar located next door and accessible from the hotel reception and the street so you don't need to leave the hotel if you don't want to. The hotel is also located near the USA ferry terminal. The biggest downside was the noise from outside as the windows are the original and not double glazed. Therefore we were awoken by the locals leave the bar next door at 2am.

Brett, Thank you for taking time to write a review. Just a note about the windows. The front of the Hotel has a Heritage designation by the City of Victoria so we could onlydoubled glazed the windows but had to keep the original wooden window frames and they are not the best at keeping out noise. The other 3 sides of the building have double glazed vinyl windows.

Well firstly I would like to thank the staff for all their help and kindness, we landed after a difficult day of late coaches and delayed ferries, we ate in the sticky wicket pub which had lovely warming food, and super kind staff, we even had 2 drinks on the house due to a miserable travel down! We were welcomed so warmly!
Secondly the front desk staff were really helpful with directions and called up our ferry company for us. There's free coffee n teas in the lobby, the free breakfast is great! Anyone who complains about that you need your head checked! Try travelling around the globe, this breakfast was free an well above the basics! The room was comfy and clean and we slept well. There was noise but it's the weekend and if you stay in any city at a weekend there will be noise!! Thank you for a lovely stay! Highly recommend x

Our stay was awesome! The bed was super comfortable and the hotel staff were very nice and accommodating. I wished there was more natural light from windows but it's not a big deal. My only complaints are with the bathroom. There definitely was not enough light, the water pressure was terrible, and the shower head wasn't that great either and could probably use a good soak in a cleaner to get rid of scum inside. However, it was just such a lovely hotel and it had such great character that it didn't dampen my impression at all. The Strath liquor store next door has a lot of wine to choose from, the bar at the Sticky Wicket was fantastic, and I will definitely be back!
