“Beautiful hotel but ask for certain rooms”

Magnolia Hotel And Spa

Jul 2, 2008

Knowing it would be a busy weekend in Victoria with the Tall Ship Festival we booked well in advance in order to get a decent room for a fair price. The rooms are beautiful with lots of thoughtful extras such as chocolates on the pillow, fresh fruit and toffee and the service is excellent. However, we were told we would have a nice view and when we opened our curtains we looked directly at a tin roof. (See photo) We called to change rooms, and reminded them (nicely) that we had been told we would have a view, but they were unable to accomodate us, and did not offer any type of compensation. We called the Grand Pacific and explained the situation and they had a better room and offered a shuttle to pick us up which was very impressive. We have stayed at the Magnolia before with no problems, but we were disappointed this time. I wouldn't discourage people from going there, but if you do, insist on seeing the room first, or tell them you do not want to look out at a tin roof.

“Excellent Hotel in perfect location”

Magnolia Hotel And Spa

Jun 29, 2008

Booked this hotel using Air Miles for a 2 night stay. We were given a Diamond room on the 6th floor which had everything we needed for our short stay. Best thing is the location only a few minutes stroll from the lovely waterfront and conveient for Victoria's many shops and restaurants. Would recommend.

I had read reviews on Expedia and Tripadvisor so we decided to stay at the Magnolia on a recent visit to Victoria. First, the staff were all very nice. That is the best thing that can be said about our stay at the Magnolia. the fitness centre is not a centre, but an old hotel room with the bed removed and three pieces of equipment in its place. a bike, a tread mill and an elliptical trainer. There are all mushed into one small hotel room.
Our room faced west, and was very warm when the sun set. I turned on the A/C and it was so slow that the room did not cool off until the next morning. I reported this to the front desk, and nothing was done while we stayed there. Our bathroom mirrored light didn't work either and it wasn't fixed after being reported. The bed was great and the Aveda products in the bath were really nice. But the worst thing of all was the included hot breakfast. Available only until 10 am, I would have to say that it was nearly unedible. It was NOT a delicious buffet, but a cold, boring bar filled with under cooked croissants and apples and oranges. There were breakfast burritos on a hot tray, that were filled with eggs and mashed potatoes( why, I don't know). The coffee was weak, but the sausages were nice. Truly, I wouldn't stay there again, for the kind of money that is charged for a 4/5 star hotel.

“Great way to start a visit to Vancouver Island”

Magnolia Hotel And Spa

Jun 4, 2008

We stayed at this hotel for the first night of our week on Vancouver Island. I wish we had planned a longer stay. The place was perfect - lovely rooms, comfy beds, well laid out bathrooms with great products. We had a good view. Best of all, the service was excellent. The staff knew just when and how to help. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“This is a beautiful hotel!”

We upgraded to the Magnolia as part of a coach programme, just staying for one night. The room was superb, very stylish, with really comfortable beds. We had a meal in the hotel's own restaurant which was excellent and the breakfast was served there too. The front of house staff are extremely helpful and friendly.
The hotel is located just a few minutes from the harbour, shops and restaurants. Victoria is a beautiful place to wander around, make sure that you head for Fisherman's Wharf, where you will see the floating houses. You can get there by foot (15 mins) or the small Aquabus from the harbour.
