Knowing it would be a busy weekend in Victoria with the Tall Ship Festival we booked well in advance in order to get a decent room for a fair price. The rooms are beautiful with lots of thoughtful extras such as chocolates on the pillow, fresh fruit and toffee and the service is excellent. However, we were told we would have a nice view and when we opened our curtains we looked directly at a tin roof. (See photo) We called to change rooms, and reminded them (nicely) that we had been told we would have a view, but they were unable to accomodate us, and did not offer any type of compensation. We called the Grand Pacific and explained the situation and they had a better room and offered a shuttle to pick us up which was very impressive. We have stayed at the Magnolia before with no problems, but we were disappointed this time. I wouldn't discourage people from going there, but if you do, insist on seeing the room first, or tell them you do not want to look out at a tin roof.
