“Bad terrible place to stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2006

When looking at other travel sites, please do not believe the pictures you see on those site. I booked this hotel because of the location and the pictures on orbitz, expedia, and Victoria tourists sites. The hotel doesn't look like that all all!! Its dreadfully dark and cold feeling. The rooms were not in good condition. The lights in our bathroom were out. There was mildew in the shower. Overall I can't believe I paid as much as I did staying there.

August 2006. Travellers beware of this hotel's cancellation policy - 48 hours advance notice. Why? Because if you happen to arrive at the hotel and find the room, hotel ammenities, and staff far below your expectations - and you cancell your reservation immediately - you'll still have to pay. Firstly, the small parking space in front of the hotel reserved for guests to unload their luggage (10 minute stay max) was being occupied by a staff member. When I arrived at the front desk and explained that I had circled the hotel several times, awaiting the departure of the particular vehicle, the desk clerks (two females of Asian desent) informed me that it was a female (blonde hair shoulder length, causain, English speaking) staff member's vehicle - not a hotel guest's vehicle. By chance, the staff member who was occupying the hotel unloading area arrived at the front desk - was extremely rude - and refused to move her vehicle. The staff member then returned to chatting and enjoying the company of other hotel workers. Another guest happend to arrive at the same time and also complained about the "green vehicle occupying the unloading area". This hotel has obviously been victim to being sold several times. It's obvious as you walk into the hotel - notably the lobby is missing furniture. The hotel requires massive renovations. The hotel does not appear to be safe and secure. There was no staff caring for security from what I could see. Security appeard to be absent The hotel room was extremely disapointing. The sofa looked old and dirty. The forest green carpets smelled and look worn and dirty. The room layout was very odd. Although there was one small window air conditioner operating - the room was extremely hot due to the room layout. The bathroom was old and worn. I requested to see another room - although the sofa appeared a little cleaner - it was much of the same decor. Therefore, I requested my 2-night reservation be cancelled and I would look for an alternate hotel. The hotel charged me $172.84 for cancelling (one night stay). A total rip-off! Especially disgusted that I would still have to pay anything due to rude staff and a dirty room. I chose to stay at the Coastal Hotel in Victoria and it was amazing! In summary, I've travelled extensively - including travel within developing countries - the Bedford Regency Hotel in Victoria, BC, has been one of the worst travel experiences.

  • Liked — nothing - it was terrible.
  • Disliked — rude staff and dirty bedrooms
  • Tips/Secrets — yes - don't destroy your holiday - stay at a known hotel - Coastal Hotel in Victoria was very nice!

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2006

We arrived early and tried to check in, but were advised our room would be ready in 2 hours. After 2 1/2 hours we were told to come back in 40 minutes. Our room still wasnt ready an hour later, but we were reaccomodated in another room. Would have saved some headache if that had been offered initially.

The room was nice with a wood burning fireplace, but the bed wasn't terribly comfortable. The location was great - walking distance to everything.

Breakfast service was chaos. Too few staff members and their English wasn't good. One table walked out without eating since service time took too long, even for a cup of coffee.

If location is key this place is great, but there were a few other hotels nearby that might have a leg up on service.

Newly renovated rooms with relaxing color scheme; centrally located in downtown Victoria. Comfortable down comforters, sheets. Lobby needs renovating and hotel staff not very knowledgeable about area. Overall we enjoyed our stay here.
