I came upon this, by chance, from searching for a hotel, on line. We were staying for 4 nights so I wanted something spacious and comfortable. I didn't expect to use the kitchen for cooking meals but we did buy juice, fruit and muffins for one breakfast there and they provided coffee. Having a fridge is always useful for keeping snacks and refreshments. I know this hotel isn't new but it didn't have the feel of an older establishment. Indeed, it was some of the little things that helped to make our stay so pleasurable like umbrellas in the closet (which we needed), 4 sets of towels for 2 people, three closets for clothes with ample hangers, really quiet rooms. We never heard a sound from an adjoining room, or a room above or the halls. The hotel is used by tour companies so there were frequent buses picking up and dropping off, but we never even heard the bell staff picking up luggage from the halls and you never got a sense that there were masses of people hanging around. All the staff were not only friendly but helpful and very knowledgeable. They had a shuttle van so, if one of the bell/porter/concierge staff was free, he would drop you off anywhere in the downtown area, and pick you up if you called when you were done. It was wonderful when, after walking all day, and now changed into dressier shoes, we could get a lift to our restaurant for dinner. They also drove us to the bus terminal, with our luggage, for our transfer to the Vancouver ferry. In terms of location, it couldn't have been better. The hotel is on a quiet side street but just a couple of hundred metres from the Parliament Building, with the Empress, the Inner Harbour, the Royal BC Museum around the corner and close to the main shopping and dinning areas. I would definitely make this my hotel of choice for any future visits to Victoria.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies on the upper floors are nice.

The Royal Scot was a hop, skip and a jump from the heart of Victoria and provided us with a fully-furnished spacious suite that left nothing to be desired. The pool is a good size and beautifully maintained (as are the gardens and the hotel interior and exterior overall). The breakfasts were delicious and the restaurant staff were efficient and amiable. Altogether our visit was a delight.

We were there this June for 3 days and 2 nights. This hotel was very comfortable, very nice decor, nice helpful staff. There is a super nice indoor pool, jacuzzi, exercise rm. Nice for famlies, but terrific for the 2 of us also. There is a restaurant on site with a great food, even an outdoor patio. I had a delicious seafood crepe one morning. A good location also for walking around Victoria. Quiet and peaceful for resting. I could have used a firmer mattress though. A great Birthday persent for me. :)

We loved this hotel! Though from the outside it looks a bit older, the inside is clean and does not look run down. We stayed in one of their suites and booked the "bed and breakfast package" which was a great deal. We had several hearty choices for breakfast each day, and didn't have to worry about paying for every meal since we had already had breakfast. We found so many yummy lunch and dinner spots, we ended up eating out more often than planned, but the kitchen aspect was nice and we did buy some snacks, etc., and stored them in the fridge. The kitchens have a fridge, full range and oven, microwave, and toaster. There is also an ice tray and pitcher, both of which we used.

Although it's a bit of a walk to any grocery store, it's not impossible. The Parliament building is less than a block away - we could see it out our window, which was lovely at night because it is all lit up. The Inner Harbour is also about a block away, and the nice thing about the location of this hotel is that it's off the really busy street so it is quiet at night. It's about a 5-7 minute walk to Beacon Hill Park... maybe 3-5 blocks? I don't remember exactly, but it didn't take long.

The hotel has a pool and hot tub (nice after long days of walking!), and an exercise room, but if you're cheap and walk everywhere, you won't be needing the exercise room! It's not great, and there are plenty of outdoor fitness options, assuming you go in the summer. They also have a "game room" with lots of board games and puzzles, which looked fun, but we didn't partake. There is a pool table and shuffle board room as well. In the hotel there is a gift shop which has postcards, magnets, aspirin, etc. But if you forget shampoo/conditioner, soap, razor, toothpaste, band-aids, you can call down to the front desk and they will bring you some free of charge.

The downsides: Breakfast was OK. The restaurant is the only thing that seems to really date the hotel - it's stuck in like 1993 with decor and paint colors, and the service is OK. I do NOT recommend the stuffed french toast - they make it sound delicious "fresh sliced bread stuffed with strawberries and brie" - but it's literally a bunch of bread, sliced down the middle with a couple strawberry slices and chunks of brie. They separate, the bread is way too thick, and in all it was not an enjoyable experience. They will substitute egg whites though, and their veggie omelet had lots of veggies. The fruit was mostly under-ripe. The other warning: They put a $700 hold on our card for incidentals in case something happened before we checked out. I'm sure this was in the fine print somewhere, but we were totally surprised by it. Once we checked out, they lifted the hold and we only paid for our room rate. Also be warned: Canadian hotel tax is 15%! A bit more than we had budgeted for...

In all, we had a really enjoyable time at the Royal Scot. The service was great, the other guests at the hotel were calm and respectful (mostly older folks, couples, few kids, no partiers!), and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel, and if we make it back to Victoria, we'll be staying at the Royal Scot again!

Room Tip: Go with the Bed and Breakfast package if you can. It saves money and you don't have to worry abo...

Room was very clean, and large. The balcony was perfect to sit and relax. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic, you can walk to all the popular spots for sight seeing, food and downtown easily. I really can't think of any complaints.

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of June and found the suite very clean and comfortable. We had an upper floor room at the back with a balcony, which we appreciated as the weather was warm and we had to keep the doors open to get fresh air - the hotel does not have air-conditioning, but they do provide a fan.
The location of the hotel is excellent - in the next street to the Parliament Buildings and just one block from the Inner Harbour.
