Although I normally don't shop for the cheapest hotels, this one was certainly the odd-one-out in Victoria. But all my doubts are gone now, it was a great stay! We paid only 90 CAD!!! Although the location is not downtown, it's very well and comfortably reachable. The rooms are very generous in size, they are clean and basically perfectly alright! The staff is fantastic, all of them. Very helpful and take the time to chat with you. Some reviews speak about the nightclub, well.... we had not even noticed there was one. So don't let this be a reason to choose another place. It's not noisy either. All in all, just a great place to stay!!

This was our second visit to Victoria. With not so good experience with the first hotel we stay at last time, we tried Red Lion Inn and suites, reconmended by friends of ours, for this time. It is a surpricingly nice place to stay.

Furnitures and decros have those modon-classic style taste, we would love to have them for our home! The granite bathroom is very nice that we may only find in some 5 star hotels. There is also a wet bar in our room, with not only coffee maker, but a fridge and a microwave. The hard wired internet access is free in our room and with real high speed.

There is no breakfast in the hotel, but we find "Pantry's" a good place to have breakfast, 2 blocks away from the hotel.
The standard room we booked is kind of small, but it's still a very good deal for the dollar. On the last night we stayed, the hotel upgraded us to a one-bedroom suite, it is very nice! It includes a full kitchen, a living/dinning room, a plasma TV, a hot tub in the bathroom. We also love the dinning table set and the buffet table with black granite on the top, very classy! For only $20 more, we would love to book this suite on our next visit!

Over all, we had very good experience with this Red Lion Inn. We love the beautiful city of Victoria, when we also found a hotel we like, it made our visit more enjoyable.

This was a nice room with lovely decor (including marble in the bathrooms, lovely cherry furniture, oriental motif), but it was disappointingly small and cramped. They do give you A/C, cable TV, frig, micro, blowdryer, and coffeemaker. The beds were fine. There was no breakfast. The outdoor pool and deck area were nice. It is convenient to downtown if you have a car. Parking at the hotel is hard to find later in the evening. There were what appeared to be some bums sitting in the rear parking lot at night. The staff here are friendly and helpful. There is a nice little kiosk in the foyer for trip information that we found helpful. Overall a pleasant stay for the price, cheaper than many in Victoria.

“Loved the Red Lion”

My daughter and I visited Victoria in June. Because of last minute cancellations at another resort I was scurrying to find suitable accomodations. I reviewed Red Lion and thought for the money it would be fine. I was correct. I loved it.

We were upgraded to a suite which had just been renovated. It overlooked the pool. Before writing this review I reread the other reviews. I am a very light sleeper and I heard nothing from the bar. I did not have a car so I can't comment on parking. The Red Lion is right on major bus stops and that is what my daughter and I used. It was very easy to catch and get around in Victoria. The motel is about 2 blocks from a Walmart and McDonalds and Starbucks. I felt it was safe, clean and the staff was courteous. Check-in was easy and the girl was very friendly. They had a computer in the lobby to use for free which was very nice.

All in all I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We loved Victoria and hope to go back again. It was not a 5 star hotel but I travel frequently and this was far one of my best experiences.

“Excellent room, very good staff, great value”

Red Lion Inn

May 25, 2006

I am 33, male and traveled alone to British Columbia for my first vacation outside the U.S. Pros of the Red Lion Inn in Victoria: the room exceeded every expectation I might have had, the staff were very helpful and courteous, and the value was great.

I did not spend much time in my room, but was impressed by the marble counters in the bathroom, large TV set, iron and ironing board, microwave oven, fridge and overall cleaniness of everything. This was my first visit not only to Victoria, but to a foreign country, and one evening staff member in particular was very helpful giving me directions after I returned and was not able to find the electronics store she had directed me to.

I had to laugh when I read previous posts about strip clubs or sketchy characters in the parking area. Honestly, I had no idea about any of this during my two weekdays at the hotel. Perhaps on the weekend it is a different scene, but I was aware only of a liquor store adjacent to the street and did not see anything that made me uncomfortable. Then again, I'm from L.A. I mean, don't leave any valuables in your car when you travel and don't go looking for trouble, and you should be fine wherever you stay the night.

My room was quiet enough to hear a pin drop, but I will mention that my window faced an alley that was nowhere near the street or the supposed strip club. And no, the hotel is not located in downtown Victoria. It is within walking distance of nothing, not even the Denny's, but all of this was located a five minute drive away. I would stay here again if traveling in Victoria due to the room, the staff and how quiet it was.
