“Excellent Value & Friendly Helpful Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

I think this is the first review I have written on this site but felt it was time to give back a little after benefiting from the reviews when I have booked travel.

My wife and I were recently in Victoria for the weekend and stayed here given the location (we had an event at Elk Lake) and the rate.

While the location is a little outside of the city core, it is an easy drive / bus into the main area for those that are touring the area. The new Uptown Mall is across the street and offers lots of shopping etc. It's a quick drive up the highway to Elk Lake or out to Sooke etc.

We had a 1 bedroom suite on the top floor and, while a little smaller than some other 1 bedroom suites we have stayed in at other hotels, it was well equipped, clean, and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. We didn't experience any of the noise that other reviews have mentioned - it was very quiet for us. We didn't explore any of the amenities on the property so cant comment on those.

The big advantage was the rate - imo, it can't be beaten for this type of accommodation in the area. Also, all of the staff we met were very friendly and helpful (a big plus).

Victoria is a great town to visit, especially in the Spring through late Summer / early Fall. Having lived there for a few years earlier in the 90's, it was great to go back.

Room Tip: Although I didn't see the standard room, the small additional charge for the 1 bedroom suite see...

We stayed here for two nights. The first night we faced the parking lot and there was a fair bit of noise as the bar customers stumbled to their cars. We could have closed the window to cut down on this I guess, but the fresh air was nice. We found a small bug in one of the beds that looked suspicious, so we informed the front desk and they immediately gave us another room. The room was not very clean; in the bathroom where the tub meets the floor, there was grunge and long hairs in the corner. The sink had a hole around the plug hole that was also a bit off-putting. The price per night was less expensive than many Victoria hotels, but next time we will pay another $20-30 and hope for something a bit cleaner that also included breakfast. One last small quibble was that on the first night there was a lot of noise from he room next door, including going in and out. Every time their door opened ours gave a little bang too.

Yes, if you don't travel much (and can never be bothered to learn to get around) or come on business, this may not be the ideal location. But that all depends on your perspective and your personal travel taste and budget. It certainly fit for me and my friend. It was very easy (15 minute) bus ride to reach the harbour and with bus fare so economical ($5 day pass as of 2014), there is no excuse not to use public transit during your romp in Victoria.

Plus, where else would you stay for $70 a night that includes a kitchnette? To add to the bargain, service is top-notch. Ask for a renovated room, and you won't regret.

If it matters to your breakfast needs, Tim Horton's is across the street.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

I chose this hotel because it was closest to my price range, but it was about a 20 minute bus ride from downtown (as we did not have a car), and was right next to a casino and liquor store, which might not be ideal. However, the staff was nice and helpful, and we managed to get to and from the hotel just fine.

Boyfriend stayed here for trades school, joined him with kids for hockey tournament... Overall, great value for the money, staff was friendly and very helpful, no noise from attached bars, and is located close to many amenities. Rooms are clean and nicely updated with granite in both kitchen and bathroom... Only recommendation would be better beds and bedding... Other than that, will definitely be staying here again! :)

We rented a studio suite for two and a half months and found it very comfortable; the staff friendly. Our questions were answered quickly. We required a second cooking pot, it was purchased and delivered within 24 hours. The hotel is conveniently located to shopping, restaurants and the Galloping Goose walking trail. The guest laundry was clean and machines in good repair.
