“Excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

This is an excellent modern hotel overlooking the harbour. It deserves the high rating it gets on Tripadvisor. Car parking fees are high though. If staying here the try going to Il Covo restaurant just a few streets away. Sea planes taking off and landing make quite a bit of a noise if you leave windows open but will please plane spotters.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the harbour on the top floor for the best views.

Dear freeflight [great handle, by the way]

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for giving us such high marks!
Yes, aren't those little seaplanes great? We have so many guests that actually come here just to sit on their balconies with a favourite beverage in hand to relax and watch the activity of our working harbour. We have the big ferry boat, the Coho, that arrives daily from Pt. Angeles, WA. We have the Victoria Clipper that also arrives daily from Seattle and a plethora of zodiacs, whale watchers, sailboats and even a Hippo bus [half bus-half boat] that are most entertaining to watch putt about the harbour. The nice thing is that the float planes all do their flying during the daylight hours and they are all put to bed after dusk. It gets incredibly quiet at night here at "the Point".
You mentioned that the parking was a little high. We actually did a survey of all the major hotels in the downtown area and we found that we are somewhere smack dab in the middle. We are neither the highest nor the lowest - so that is good news.

Thank you again for you comments. Have a great rest of your summer in Leistershire!

Sincerely,

~Judy~

Stayed at Inn at Laurel Point, booked by Trailfinders. Lovely room with amazing views. The setting was beautiful, overlooking the Pacific and part of Victoria. Hotel facilities were good, staff pleasant. If I came to Canada again, I would stay for longer. Interesting activities accessible from this hotel. We went whale watching and took a tour on the Hippo bus which travels on land and water.

I stayed at this hotel over 10 years ago and had fond memories of a place that needed updating a bit. Unfortunately they have gone for commercial - conferences, weddings and cruise ship visitors which makes it very busy (ok manic) and impersonal.

The view of the harbour is nice and the facilities are all very good. It's a 5 minute walk into Victoria City Centre. The people working there are attentive and good at their job ... but. The feel is off. It's difficult with so many good hotels in Victoria but I feel the Inn needs to find it's niche somehow. At the moment it feels like an efficient airport and rather bland.

Room Tip: Except for size there doesn't seem to be any difference in the rooms at all. (I stayed in two di...

Dear DeeJ942,

Well, I must say, your comments were bittersweet to read and it is disappointing to hear that you found our Inn to feel like an efficient airport and rather bland. You did however, mention that all of the facilities were good and that our staff were attentive and good at their jobs so I am not quite sure about the feel that you were expecting.
You see, when the current management team arrived here about 8 years ago it became quickly apparent that the guest rooms and public spaces were very tired and in need of a major facelift. And so in 2007, we began a major overhaul and renovation to our guest rooms and to our restaurant. The rooms were re-designed by the award winning Vancouver design firm lead by Robert Ledingham and the result is a 5 million dollar refurbishment to both our Erickson Wing and to the rebuilding of our new waterfront dining room, AURA. Since then, we have also invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into our standard rooms on the Laurel Wing side of the building. Are we finished yet? No. We still have a lot to do, but frankly, I think we now have one of the most elegant understated contemporary hotels in the city and that is why our guests have voted us into the top 10 Victoria hotels according to Trip Advisor.
I am so sorry that you found it too busy for your liking but I can assure you that our guest’s personal comfort is equally important to our success as is our wedding and conference business – after all, they do go hand in hand usually.
Perhaps you would prefer to come back when our hotel is less busy – say during some of the winter months. You could take in a little theatre, perhaps some shopping or just a little R & R. Maybe that would be more to your liking.

Thank you again for your candid comments.

Sincerely,

~Judy~

Well run hotel with very good service staff, excellent location on the inner harbor and close to main attractions, very good restaurant and be sure to ask for a room in the Erickson Wing, these rooms are some of the largest and nicest in all Victoria.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the Erickson Wing, these are the newer, larger rooms with views of the inner harbo...

DearLawroadw,

Thank you for your heartfelt comments. You are so right, our Erickson Wing suites are very spacious and I would decribe our interiors as understated and sophisticated - our interiors allows the views to take centre stage.

So glad that you also enjoyed your dining experience in AURA, our watefront dining room and waterfront patio. Chef Ito's creations and devine!

Thanks again and do come back for more than a weekend next time!

Sincerely,

~Judy~

We spent a Saturday night at the Inn at Laurel Point recently as part of the Victoria Clipper vacation package. The hotel is a short and pleasant walk from the Clipper Terminal, but it's in a quiet part of the waterfront, near the Inner Harbour Walking Route. We were in the less-expensive older wing, but the room was modern, spacious, well appointed and comfortable.
A few feet from your room, you can access the walking trail and take a lovely stroll by
Fisherman' s Wharf. The hotel is also extremely convenient for any sight seeing you have planned.
The staff was very friendly and attentive.

We stayed in the Dream Suite for 6 nights. Sure, it was a bit pricey for a room....but it was certainly more than just a room ! IT was tremendous! From the wonderful marble hallway and bathroom, to the spacious terrace overlooking the harbor, it was the best room we have had in our 60 years. The closest was a much more expensive room in Venice on the canal, but this room beat Venice!

The staff was excellent! Terry the valet went over the top with suggestions and finding answers to all of our questions if he didnt know. His recommendations on restaurants were great!

The people on the phone (concierge) were extremely friendly, polite and helpful. Although all were excellent, there was one (Kris? - never did meet her ) that went over the top to make reservations for us and help us arrange things.....just great people!

The service staff was tremendous.

The Breakfasts at the AURA were nice, not over the top. The atmosphere is wonderful at AURA, but it seems their dinner menu is somewhat limited. But that shouldnt be a drawback to staying here.
They have a wonderful Japanese water garden that is just great to sit and relax by.

Writing this makes me want to go back tomorrow. Wonderful experience - highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for the inner Harbor side and a room in the newer side. Although sunny and warming in the aftern...

Dear Gerald_201499.

Yes, our Dream Suite really is dreamy, isn't it? I love that the sliding windows in the the private jacuzzi room open up to the "over the top" large sized patio and one can sit and sip a glass of one's favourite beverage and take in the views of the outer harbour, the Sooke hills and beyond all the while sitting in a lovely warm jetted jacuzzi. No wonder you want to return!! [insert smile].
Thank you for staying with us in our little piece of paradise here on Vancouver Island and I hope that you will have an opportunity to return for another memorable stay one day soon.

All the best and enjoy the rest of your summer!

This was our last lodging after a month touring western Canada. It was exceptionally well situated for visiting areas around the harbour, with a superb harbour view from our room. The hotel grounds, with their "infinity lake" made for a relaxing final two nights. Our room was spacious with a great view and parking, although quite expensive, was easy and accessible. This was well up with any of the accommodation we had throughout our trip.

Room Tip: A front room is a must!
