“great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

This Hotel was pre-booked in a Tour Package. Turned out it was the perfect location for views from the balcony (right on the water edge), walking to town (footpath around the water) and the peaceful gardens out back. Found the 'tea/coffee lounge' downstairs very handy for grabbing a drink without going up to the room.
They put on a lovely breakfast in a nice open room with views, for our group only

This hotel is on the outskirts of Victoria in a quiet water front location but is only a five minute walk from the centre. The room was spacious and very clean and had a lovely view over the harbour which we had not expected. The level of service and friendliness of the staff could not be faulted. The efficiency of the staff from the valet parking to the checking in and out made our stay here even better. We would certainly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Victoria.

Room Tip: Request a harbour view if possible.

Firstly its always a great start to a honeymoon to get an upgrade and a fantastic welcome. Our terrace suite was bigger then my house back home and the views and decor were fabulous. We just loved everything about the place from the valet staff to the cleaning staff to the area in general.

Thanks for being an ace hotel and I wish you all the best

Ben

Room Tip: Ericsen wing, splash out on a terrace suite. Deffo a hotel for a special occassion, dont bother with...

My wife and I had a terrific 2 or 3 days in late August at Laurel Point. We stayed in the newer wing and liked it very much. Great large balcony (a little underutilized due to the weather) and spacious bedroom, living room, and bathroom. Yes, it was not the least expensive in the house, a "bedroom suite king with hide-a-bed" facing the harbor, but I call it fine accommodation and good value. After dinner in Aura the first night we decided we would not even look anywhere else in town for dinner the following night, it was that good. Attentive, friendly, quietly unobtrusive staff and Maitre d', excellent menu and presentation.

Similarly, the front desk crews were outgoing and helpful with questions from far-out-of-town visitors. This was an excellent experience, so we will return.

Booked a room in the Erickson wing (rather than the older Laurel wing) as a special treat for my birthday after reading the reviews here but want to make sure other people do not make the same mistake. We had expected to enjoy the views that other people have described i.e overlooking Victoria Harbour and watching the seaplanes taxi and take off/land. Instead, we were given a partial view of the inner harbour (overlooking the Fairmont Empress) and our terrace was completely overlooked by 2 apartment blocks affording no privacy - even the divider between terraces was made of glass (with little frosted squares) so no privacy from neighbours either. Also we had hoped to watch the sun set over the harbour but this room was totally the wrong orientation. Not the view we were expecting at all for the money and especially as many of the rooms in the cheaper Laurel wing had better views. Asked if we could be moved to a room we were expecting and were told there were no other rooms available. [Probably as there was a wedding taking place at the hotel which we strangely had to keep walking through in order to access the Erickson wing and listen to all the wedding speeches - so no privacy for them either.] We were moved to a room overlooking the ‘outer harbour’, as they term it, the following day so I now know the difference. This is the side that overlooks the Japanese garden and is completely charming. I think my biggest gripe is that when I discussed my dissatisfaction with management I was informed it was my fault as I had not specified that I wanted an ‘outer’ rather than an ‘inner’ harbour view. This would have been difficult to achieve as this distinction was not made on the website and having never visited the hotel before how were we supposed to know? They do, however, make it clear that some of the rooms on the lower floors of the Laurel wing have restricted views.

The room/bathroom was pleasantly spacious as expected but we had problems with the toilet flush, the fridge had not been cleaned out with the previous guests items for which we were comped a breakfast and there was a few design errors - not least the ancient coffee machine stuck in a cupboard (with only powdered coffee creamer to put in tea) which hardly fitted in with the ultra modern image aimed for especially when so many hotels now have Nespresso machines. Then, there is the $17 charge for parking your car. Incidentally, there are 2 public car parks nearby which charge only ±$6.95 for 24 hrs parking although they are not undercover like the hotel’s one. On a positive note the reception staff and bell hops were very knowledgeable, helpful and professional but at the end of the day my birthday treat was spoiled - so make sure you know what you are booking. I have attached photo.’s of the 2 views.

Dear yorkietrav,

I am so sorry that your birthday was a dissapointment all because the view was not to your liking. After looking at the pictures you posted I know exactly what room your are referring to. If one was to pan slightly left, one could see an unobstructed view of the inner harbour that yes, is indeed facing the east, the downtown area and the beautiful inner harbour. The grade of the condo is much behind our property but you are right, one can see it, if properly oriented.
You know, sometime there is a miscommunication with guests on the difference between "inner" and "outer" harbour as we are on a peninnsula and surrounded by water on 3 sides and really how would a guest from Yorkshire even know this - so I do apologize for the confusion.
On a better note, I hope that your birthday wasn't a complete wash and that you were able to find a little silver lining after all.

All the best for a belated birthday wish!

~Judy~

This Inn should have everything going for it as they have the best location in Victoria and charge 5 stars rates for it BUT.... the rooms in the older wing have little or no sound proofing from room to room, bathroom noise from other suites is excessive and will certainly interrupt a quality and restful sleep. The Inn has a pool but hotel policy is to provide just 1 housecoat/ their is no connection between parkade and inn to move luggage without going outdoors/ separate $17 charge for parking/ implement a charge for late checkout. There other 5 star hotels in Victoria harbour that are similar priced and do not have all the add on charges and will provide a restful quiet room. The many negatives deter from a great Inn and put this Inn overpriced for what they deliver.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 231 - apparently in the older wing. Very noisy

Stayed here for one night. Rooms clean and comfortable. Staff very informative. Great location with lovely views over the harbour and nice walks around the sea wall. Only a couple of things to spoil the perfect stay. Rooms not
Very well sound proofed can hear all that goes on in corridor and even your neighbours bathroom habits. Also please be aware there is a $17 per night charge for secure parking (that we were not told about). All parking at this hotel is chargeable.
