“One night stay was great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Chose this Hotel for it's good rate and good location, everything we wanted to do was in walking distance. We were greeted by friendly staff and got to our room quickly. The 2 bed, room was clean, roomy and comfortable. The staff were helpful & quick to get us an extra cot, as well as able to help us with directions around town for places we wanted to go.
We would definitely stay there again.

Thank you so much for expressing your positive opinions on our hotel, our location and staff!

We are a smaller family owned and operated – style hotel, and we take pride in our friendly service and have always taken great care in our cleanliness in all areas of our hotel! We are happy to hear you received your extra cot your as you requested!

We do offer three main types of accommodations, and they are priced accordingly. Our newly renovated Dalton Boutique Rooms and Dalton Boutique Suites are quite spacious, with air-conditioning and some with fireplaces and living rooms! We also offer standard Dalton Rooms for those people looking for a standard room and are more budget-minded. Our Dalton Boutique Rooms and Suites are becoming more and more requested and popular with our guests!

We really appreciate it and we look forward to seeing you on your next visit to Victoria!

Stayed at hotel for 2 nights. It is centrally located in downtown Victoria, It is an old hotel but very clean. Beds are very comfortable and the staff was outstanding from the desk clerk to the cleaning staff.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quieter

The room was clean and comfortable and it was an easy walk to restaurants. The staff was very accommodating. One of our group asked to me moved away from the street and they were happily accommodated. It's an old hotel but I felt it had a lot of charm. The breakfast was sufficient to start our day.

Room Tip: If any kind of street noise is an issue, ask for a room at the back.

Based on previous reviews, I was weary at first but our Dalton stay was better than expected........the staff were more than accommodating and helpful, the hotel was older but the rooms were extremely clean and presentable. The hotel was quiet at night in side and the nightlife outside wasnt too bad or didnt last too long so that was a non issue. Breakfast that was included was great......we both left with full bellies!
I would suggest this to others and consider it again if I go back to Victoria!

Room Tip: Boutique rooms are better than the standard rooms

The staff was lovely and very helpful. The hotel itself seems to have some upgraded rooms (with newer tvs, key card entry etc.). Our room was very small, very noisy (nightlife & construction) and in need of some amenity upgrades with no AC. A bar fridge would have been useful, but the staff was happy to put anything that needed to stay cold in their fridge. It was an easy walk to the harbour and all the downtown sights. We loved the sense of history in this very old hotel. If you stay here, be sure to ask to see the scrapbook of bits and pieces of hotel history that is being put together by one of the staff. It's fascinating.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side of the front entrance on Yates Street. There is a very, very lou...

Hello, and thank you so much for expressing your positive opinions about our hotel, service and great staff! We really do appreciate it! Our exceptional downtown location, complimentary deluxe continental breakfasts and very affordable accommodation rates do attract most of our customers!

Yes, being conveniently located downtown can have some downtown noises, especially on the weekend evenings. When keeping your windows closed, this buffers the noises considerably! We also have rooms facing in all directions, as you can imagine, as we have three inside hallways, depending on our guests preferences. Some rooms will be quieter than others depending on their location of course. We do call all our guests after they check-in to be sure they are happy with their room; if this was not done in your case, we sincerely apologize. If for any reason, a guest would like to try another room, we would be happy to accommodate that request at check in time. The construction you are referring about must be something from outside of the hotel, as we do not do any construction in the summer months.

Many of our guests are very interested in seeing some of the history of the hotel, as it was founded in 1876 and we do have some historical newspaper articles and photos about the hotel we enjoy showing our interested guests.

We do offer standard rooms, which are a bit smaller, but which are also less expensive and have only been updated at this time and then our new larger Boutique Rooms & Suites which have been completely renovated which offer brand new flat screen TV's, air-conditioning, brand new heritage style furniture and are quite spacious. Also the One Bedroom Boutique King Suites also have small frigs. Perhaps you would like to try one of our Boutique Rooms or Suites! We hope to see you again!

Thank you again so much!

We had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at the Dalton. We had a boutique room which was exceptionally clean (honestly I checked), it was very spacious with canopy queen (5ft) bed - sheets were bright white, crisp and ironed. There was a chaise longue sofa, large antique tv unit, coffee machine, ceiling fan, air con. The bathroom (exceptionally clean) was large with bath/shower over, sink with huge countertop for all my makeup etc. We asked for a quiet room and were given an internal room - there was no view but oh .. so quiet even though the hotel was full for our stay we did not hear any noise whatsoever - the walls are thick and you do not hear any noise from the adjacent rooms (no tv noise, no babies crying, no shouting as we have experienced in other hotels - yes there was a baby next door!). We asked for a kettle at reception - it was delivered to our room within about 5 minutes. The staff were extremely helpful - nothing was too much trouble from management, reception, cleaners.
From the information we saw the Dalton is the oldest hotel in Victoria and does have old world character and charm - it is sympathetically decorated to keep the character of its original period - some might say old fashioned but I would say "in keeping with the buildings character and age". In the communal areas and on the stairs there is beautiful wood panelling.
The continental breakfast was adequate very similar to many other hotels. Unfortunately the restaurant closed just before our arrival. The hotel is only about 6 blocks from the bus station/downtown and takes about 8 mins to walk and about 12 mins to Beacon Hill Park. The location was excellent for us - we were able to walk everywhere - inner harbour, parliament building, museum etc. Chinatown in the opposite direction about 8 mins. They also have suites which include a small kitchenette, sitting room and bedroom. The hotel is undergoing renovations but we did not hear any building works etc nor did we see any builders etc. We thought the Dalton was excellent value for the price.
The hotel is situation near the Catholic Cathedral - well worth a look to see the beautiful stained glass and vaulted ceilings.
If you like sleek, contemporary and modern then this is not the place.

Room Tip: internal rooms are very very quiet; boutique rooms are larger.

The photos of the hotel are totally misleading -- it looks nothing like the photos on Expedia or Orbitz. The hotel is run down, dirty and when I was there it was undergoing some sort of internal construction. The musty order several have alluded to I believe is mold -- the building is over 100 years old. The owner is a guy named John and he is a real hustler -- he sells the rooms on Expedia and Orbitz requiring you pay up front and when you refuse to stay in such a filthy location he pockets your cash and rents the room a second time. The place is God awful -- there is no safe parking assoicated with this place. The provincial health department needs to shut this hotel down -- This is the provincial capital -- how can they let this place stay open? It does have a great location -- if you want a room that smells like an arm pit and a hallway that smells musty.

Room Tip: Go anywher but the Dalton Hotel -- you would be better off sleeping in the street.

My management response to this alleged guest’s remark is that the entire comment is fabricated along with his / her name.

This alleged guest NEVER stayed at the Dalton Hotel and must have confused the name of this Hotel with another.

The rooms are extremely clean, and all my staff including the guest service agents go above and beyond to help my guests.

Book a room at the Dalton Hotel and see for yourself.

Sincerely,

John Lioudakis | GM
