We booked this hotel on-line and were very happy with it. It's got nice rooms that we enjoyed staying in, and we were able to cook for ourselves, which is really useful when travelling with young children.
The big down-side was the noisy plumbing, and I suspect there would have been a lot of noise from Johnson, as it's a busy road. However, we were at the back of the hotel, so although the view of the back alleys and roof behind was awful (!), the room didn't suffer from traffic noise at all.
The valet parking worked perfectly for us, and we didn't have to wait either to drop off or pick up our car at all. The hotel is an easy walk from shops and the inner harbour, BC museum, etc - we happily criss-crossed the city several times. Although there are a couple of 7/11 stores nearby, groceries are very limited, tired and expensive, so recommend a trip to the larger grocery store nearby - the staff on the front desk were happy to suggest somewhere. The staff were generally friendly and helpful about our various questions and requests. We had room service from the on-site restaurant and it was fine, and reasonably priced.
Other reviewers have commented on the large numbers of homeless people near the hotel. We encountered a couple of people asking for money in the streets round the hotel, but they did so politely and we never felt vulnerable when saying no. Victoria is a city, and cities have homeless people... London is much more threatening in the centre of town!
A pool would make the hotel a real winner. The hotel does give passes to the local YMCA pool, but that's obviously a very poor second to being able to pop down to a pool in the hotel...
We would certainly consider staying here again when we're in Victoria, which is very likely, as we loved the town.
Rooms at the front of the hotel face a lot of traffic. Ones at the back have an awful view but they...

I want to thank the author for writing this review of our hotel. The room these guests stayed in is one of our studio suites. They are equipped with a full kitchen and seating area with pullout couch. As we are so centrally located in Downtown Victoria we do a very urban view of the surrounding buildings. While Johnson St. is a rather busy street during the day, traffic does slow down in the evenings and the rooms on the front of the building do not experience as much noise as one would think. As our hotel was built in 1912, we were unfortunately built without a pool; we do, however, offer complimentary passes to the local YMCA just a short walk from our front doors.
