Tonight a group of us (6) set sail on the beautiful Thane. The weather could not have been more perfect, and with two cruise ships in port this evening, the sights to see when leaving the inner harbour were fantastic. Sue & Len warmly welcomed us aboard Thane -- gently reminding us to leave any items with metal (i.e.: zippers, etc) off of the wood as it is soft and easily damaged. With a blanket they laid down for us in front of the captain's quarters (a large area with stained wood), we were able to be conscious of preserving the integrity of the Thane.
We departed the dock towards Johnson Street bridge, then looped past the Delta Hotel, and towards the 'outer harbour', past Ogden Point (cruise ships) and the breakwater. We all got brave and took turns sitting at the very front of the boat, having a pseudo Titanic moment ("I'm the king of the world!"). There was one other couple aboard. Personally I didn't get much historical perspective about the boat because I was taking in the views and just enjoying a marvelous night out, though I did notice Len having a hearty discussion with one of the others on board. I had no idea (until reading their website) that the Thane is made from reclaimed materials, adds to the beauty of the boat! Loved that their cats were on board, happily frolicking all over the boat and enjoying the late evening sun.
Our group enjoyed snacks and wine, with Sue & Len happily offering plastic cups to drink from.
Would definitely recommend doing this sailing tour - absolutely worth the money, and then some. I am already thinking about wanting to do the 3-hour tour!
