“Top Spot in Victoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2014

My wife and I spent tow nights in this first class Hotel. It really is an excellent B&B. Large well decorated rooms with a wood burning fireplace and a jacuzzi. Comfortable, relaxing and close to many of Victorias main attractions. Gourmet breakfast and interesting Appies in the afternoon. Comfortable lounge with bar service. Four blocks to the ocean, three blocks to Beacon Hill Park the Empress and Museum. Excellent restaurants within walking distance. Staff very helpful.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Opal rooms facing the garden, highly recommended.

I can't say much more than others have - Abigail's is a perfect spot for visiting Victoria. We stayed four nights - it's a ten or so minute walk to inner harbour and main streets (possibly a little far for Chinatown if walking's not your thing). The cherry blossom in bloom enhanced the walks. We stayed in the Canterbury room which, I think, is one of the biggest. At the price we paid, the whole experience was a steal - wonderful breakfasts, tasty evening appetizers and a relaxing lounge to sit around in and read. Staff were so friendly and helpful. We ate at Ulla which was very good. Pizzeria Prima Strada in the opposite direction to town was a great little place for a delicious pizza. Don't think the food at Pagliacci's quite matches the reputation or atmosphere. Victoria was worth seeing but perhaps four days was one too many (in late March anyway).

Room Tip: At the prices, paying a little extra to be in the top rooms seemed worth it to us

Not only is this gem of a hotel the best we have found in Victoria, it is better than some we have tried on Vancouver Island at a fraction of the price. The previous reviews are all absolutely accurate, from the wonderful staff who really do want you to have a nice day, to the luxuriously appointed rooms. The breakfast was, indeed, a treat. Cannot recommend this green oasis, in the heart of the city, highly enough.

My partner and I stayed at Abigail’s Hotel for three nights in early March. We were in Victoria to check out real estate on southern Vancouver Island.

On arriving, we received the warmest welcome we’ve ever received in a hotel, and it turned out to be typical of the helpful, unforced, friendliness we received from staff throughout our stay. Once we’d checked in, we were shown the cozy, relaxing lounge, where there was a fire burning in the fireplace, and coffee, tea, were available. Beer, wine, and other drinks were also available at a charge. There was also a daily selection of gourmet finger foods, from which you could help yourself. The lounge contained a library along one wall, and a couple of copies of the day’s Globe and Mail and Victoria Times Colonist were available. The adjacent breakfast room was also open for those who preferred more formal seating than the lounge.

Our room was a Ruby Double Room at the back on the second floor. The room exuded the kind of charm and character that goes with a 1930s ‘Tudor’ mansion, almost making us gasp when we first went in, and there were fresh flowers and freshly baked cookies waiting for us!
The beds took up most of the room and they were unusually high – so high that we laughed as we almost literally climbed into/onto them – but they were incredibly comfortable and felt more luxurious than any beds we’d ever slept in! The bathroom had an old-fashioned style tub, which was so high that it was a little awkward getting in and out (we’re not very big people!), but the big ‘rainshower’ shower head made for a beautiful shower.

Despite the luxurious aspects of the room - and everything was very clean, it was not really a room to spend much time in. We read a little in the evening, but there wasn’t really a suitable place with a good amount of light. There was table lamp between the beds that was on when we arrived, but we switched it off when we left for dinner and when we came back, the switch wouldn’t stay on. (We reported this, but it still didn’t work when we left.) To be fair, hotel rooms are often not well lighted for reading and no doubt the lounge downstairs would have been a better place to read. Also, the beds were so comfortable and the hotel so quiet that we slept extremely well, which is the most important thing. (Of course there was a TV, though we hardly watched it, and the wifi signal was good and easy to access.)

Breakfast was a treat! The menu varied a little every day, but there was always, fresh fruit, juice, the most delicious granola (we were kindly given the recipe!), and pastries or bread or muffins. A cooked breakfast was also available. We really enjoyed our breakfasts, though the coffee could have been stronger.

Parking is free and is right behind the hotel. The location of the hotel is very good. It’s at the end of a dead-end street in a quiet, attractive area, but it’s only a short walk to the harbor and downtown. There are lots of restaurants within easy and pleasant walking distance.

Abigail’s Hotel is really special! We very much enjoyed our stay and will certainly stay there again when we visit Victoria.

Room Tip: Our room was nice, but rooms with one large bed might seem a bit more spacious than the one with two...

Everything was wonderful - the location, the staff, the breakfasts, the room decor and the bed. We had such great sleeps we came home and ordered a set of sheets for our home use since the staff were kind enough to give us the website information. Can't recommend enough! Will definitely be back.

I can't say enough about this place. Absolutely beautiful facility. We were in one of the rooms on the top floor and it was so lovely. Truly comfortable bed, which is not something I think I have ever said before. The staff gets an A+ for helpfulness and friendliness. The breakfast in the morning was perfect. Just really wonderful all the way around.

Stayed here for a long weekend. This is an excellent boutique hotel, not a b and b as described by other reviewers. Everything clean, comfortable and nice. Bed very comfortable, bedroom overlooking car park was very quiet. Breakfast absolutely marvellous, delicious choices and scones a wonder. The bakery items from breakfast are wrapped and left for you to enjoy all day, along with the coffee and tea available. Such a pity that all the other guests enjoyed the scones as well as ourselves - there were none left for the basket one day! Nice cookies on arrival, along with water and good stuff in bathroom. Super claw foot tub, rain shower, all worked really well. Every single member of staff super helpful, fetched real milk for tea rather than cream for us, lovely big library with books and dvds to borrow, and enormous flat screen tv to watch. Evening appetizers were substantial and we did not need to eat out one night. No elevator, but they help with bags if you need this. Loads of parking in back. Bit of a walk to harbor, but it's a walking city, they supply umbrellas, and that's why we came here. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.

Room Tip: Our room at back was very quiet.
