“Victoria's Secret!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

When we pulled up outside the Surf Motel I thought 'OMG', what have we done here! A 1960's building on a busy road. Then you walk inside and sure enough it was a left over from the 60's.

In truth, it was brilliant to find somewhere real retro with features kept in situ since the family bought the property in 1959. My disappointment on arrival was soon replaced by the joy of the Motel's really super friendly staff, the large rooms with every facility you could possibly need and how clean the place was.

The view of James Bay and the mountains beyond was amazing from all the rooms and it was only a short walk to the centre of Victoria. Overall the Surf Motel, Victoria was a real pleasure to stay in, cheaper than larger hotels in the area but far, far more than first expected. I would seriously recommend this experience if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Vancouver Island's capital. My family and I intend to use the Motel next time we visit our folks on the Isand.

Room Tip: Go for a room on the 3rd floor - helps the views. There is no pool or restaurant but there is a re...

This Motel isn't in the heart of the tourist attractions, but it's a 5 minute drive and well worth the stay. Every room has windows from floor to ceiling with a magnificent view of the water and snow-capped mountains of Washington State. Throw in a kitchen and supplies, free parking and wi-fi and a great restaurant in walking distance (opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner) - this is a really great place to stay. End your day out on the town by taking a walk along the sea (walking trail included) for an overall great experience. The staff is really friendly and welcoming.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on 3rd floor for highest elevated views, but really any room will do.

The Surf Motel sits across the street from the Juan de Fuca Strait and overlooks the iconic Ogden Point Breakwater. Every room faces the water. Our room was on the third floor (top floor) and we spent several warm evenings enjoying apres-dive drinks on our sunny deck.
The room was clean and bright, the kitchen appliances (stove, oven, fridge) worked perfectly and the bathroom was roomy.
Management was very friendly and helpful, and they had no issues with us bringing our dive gear in and out (we were respectful).
The Surf is not a luxury hotel, but for divers or independent-minded tourists who appreciate a laid-back vibe & unsurpassed view, the Surf Motel is very hard to beat!

Room Tip: Third floor rooms have the best view.

The best thing about this hotel is the location. Waking up to the view of the Strait is awesome.
I have stayed here in the past and the hotel could have used some updating. This has been done. The room was recently renovation in a retro theme. The room was big and comfy with a full kitchen and amenities, the bed was very comfortable.
The desk clerk was really nice and helpful.
Of course since the hotel is on Dallas Road and has a bus stop it can be a little noisy if you are a light sleeper.

Room Tip: avoid the ground floor.

My husband and I enjoyed the 1950's-like feel of this privately-owned motel. We love that the current owner is the grandson of the first owner! Our room was very comfortable and clean. The view was less than we'd hoped for but that was totally due to the fog, NOT the room! The wall of windows facing the waterfront was quite stunning even if we saw more fog than we would have liked. We found the location to be ideal and it called to us to stroll down to the pier! We would definitely stay here again!

Stayed here on a number of occasions when visiting and it's always been a great experience. The location can't be beat. We can walk everywhere we want to go in the city and love the fantastic view from the balcony. The rooms are clean and comfortable and having a fully stocked kitchenette is a great bonus. We'll be back.

Good value motel right on Dallas road - seriously, what a view!
Large rooms, comfy beds. Senior's rates! Kitchenettes. Drift back to the early 60's......
Very friendly helpful staff.
Downside: bit noisy being on a main thoroughfare. Also, walls are pretty thin.

Room Tip: Top floor end rooms are great but have poor wifi connectivity.
