Well we came from the other end of the world for the Otters and omg did we get otters. see pics.. but what we also discovered was one the best and most beautiful island kayaking locations on earth.
A unique location like this is naturally going to attract the loveliest, most experienced and legendary guides in the business and this is exactly what you get at WCE - a great crew who after kayaking the world fell in love with Spring Island and made it their summer home. Looking back, my partner and I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to join the WCE family for 5 days in their exclusive and perfect location. We ate like kings and every night slept that perfect - I am in the wilderness on a comfy bed with the tide lapping on the shore outside my tent and Ive just had a hot shower - uninterrupted sleep. We woke renewed and excited every day ready to explore, in the middle of BC's largest marine Ecological Reserve. If we wanted a lazy beach day near the otter raft in the glass bottom boat, just a walk in the forest, or a serious expedition to paddle our worldly troubles away, there was a boat and guide to match these options and everything in between.
In Partnership with the Kyuquot owners, Dave and Caroline have created a retreat out of love for Kyoquot Sound and its peoples and an honest desire to share it with others. From a purely boring logistics perspective - given the infrastructure, great quality kayaks on offer, and the catering resources provided by WCE in this remote location, there is no doubt that our week on on Spring island was an absolute bargain, but these guys definitely do it for the love and combining all of these factors with the long summer days makes a week on Spring Island absolutely priceless.
Of my 6 weeks in Canada seeing the best it had to offer, the 5 days on Spring Island take up 99.4% of my Canadian memory bank and 84% of my Canadian photo album. The profound beauty of the places WCE showed me will stay with me forever, so thank you Bev, Dave, Caroline, Morgan (you little champion), Sandra, Serina and James (yes I still want to marry you for your cooking), so so so much. You have won a place in my heart and are welcome at our own Sea Kayakers paradise down on the tiny island of Tasmania any time.
