Description: Welcome to Jambo Grill. "Jambo” is Swahili, East African word, meaning hello. “Paan” is a betal leaf wraped with sweets & nuts. The dishes at Jambo Grill are Khoja style cooking, which is quite different from other Indian style dishes. Khoja’s, followers of the Ismaili Branch of Shia sect of Islam, our forefathers in India, were converted to Islam by the Dais from Iran. Thus, there is a strong Persian & Gujarati influence evident in our cooking. The Tandoor, a deep clay oven is one of the key elements in cooking these dishes, like Chicken Tikka, Kebabs & Naan bread whick cooks on the walls of the tandoor. Around the 1920s, the Khoja’s settled in large numbers in East Africa before immigrating to Canada in the 1970s. Certain African style dishes such as Cassava & Tilapia Fish are influences from that continent. Also cooking on the Grill (Sigdi) was very common in East Africa. Dishes like Mishkaki & Kuku Choma are prepared in this manner. At Jambo Grill we present you with the tastes of four continents, Iran, India, Africa, & Canada which we now call home. Our ingredients, tastes, & style of cooking are influenced by each of these unique places. Our Symbol Shaped like a betal leaf & the flame of a tandoor oven, on top of our naan bread, with paan leafs falling into a jar of sweet syrup.Voted Vancouver's Best East African and Indian Cuisine & Restaurant in Vancouver.

“Excellent Place for Ribs and Nylon Baijia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

Located not too far from Metrotown, this is great place for good priced authentic east african food.
Love their ribs and Nylon Baijia...a place that brings back memories of home.

Prices are ok... abit on the high side but worth it if you get the ribs and other delicious dishes.
Service can be hit and miss unless you have the owner take care of you.

Overall, a great place to eat and enjoy.
Highly recommend it!!

“Delicious food and moderate prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

We were at the restaurant in the early afternoon, and chose this restaurant over all the other asian restaurants, because it looked slightly more convincing :)

To our surprise the different curries, naan bread and the desserts were just delicious and good priced.

The service was fine.

“Tasty Home Cooking !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

I went there with BC family, with very high expectations and I was not disappointed!

The service was very friendly (Hello, Ali) and the food served piping hot. Everything we had in our party of 13, was very fresh and tasty. All you can eat "Thali on Thursday" was so much food!!!

Went back again for the Tilapia Fish. Huge and very fresh (that's not a Pacific fish-how do they do it??)

Pots of chai and a great family ambiance!!

A must visit in Vancouver if you like Indian food (this place has an East African twist)

“Delicious....we keep going back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

this is one of our favorite restaurants in Vancouver. family owned and operated. indian / east african fusion. excellent value and the meals are delicious, fresh and cooked to order. menu has something for everyone. thali and vegetarian options, fish curries and the grill items are mouth watering. they make their own naan which is served hot and doesn't disappoint. a favourite for my two teens who both love the ribs. endless cups of chai are a bonus. we've been to this restaurant upwards of 50 times and have never been disappointed with the quality or service.
