“Tasty not greasy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2014

Ordered from the online menu to pick up for 3 people. Got there at time indicated to pick up and needed to wait a few minutes. Obviously freshly made. Did not realize how much food is in each dish. Lots! Had enough for another dinner. Veggies were crisp, not overloaded with sauces, not greasy and each dish had it's own flavour. Not bad for an unassuming corner restaurant. Will go again.

“Close Your Eyes--You're in Szechuan, China-Heavenly Food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014

A friend and I discovered the Chongquing over 20 years ago, when it was a tiny place on Broadway, just E of Victoria (or Commercial?). We raved about the food so much that one night all but one table were occupied by our friends! We followed the restaurant to its current location, and were traumatized when Kay, the original owner, sold the restaurant. Somehow, the new owners have sustained the superb flavours and unique spicing. Szechuan food is always spicy and often very HOT, but done well the heat is infused into the food, it emanates FROM the food, rather than being poured on top of it. Try the cold (right-icy cold!) shredded chicken salad...and hang on to your seat! Amazing. I have eaten over twenty dishes here, and every one of them has been an experience. You will rarely find Chinese food this superb.

In addition to the extraordinary tastes that await you, this wonderful food is modestly priced, the portions are huge, and the service is fast. Don't expect romantic ambiance--decor is basic and the lights are bright. They feed hundreds every day, so dawdling over cocktails is not encouraged! Oh! full takeout too, so you can phone ahead, take this gorgeous food home, and create your own ambiance!

“Yum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Very fresh and delicious dishes. Don't miss the green beans or the lettuce wraps. We also had the hot and sour soup, the lemon chicken, a chow mein dish, and the orange beef. Everything was wonderful, the service was quite good, and the price was right--$82 (+ tip) for 5 hungry people.
