“A fun night out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Went to Afghan Horsemen on Saturday night. Not sure why we had not tried it before since it has been there for more than 30 years. Nice change, good variety of food including vegan platter. Service was good, not rushed. Belly dancer better than average. Reminded us of ouir travels in middle east. Overall a great experience and will be back.

Lots of metered street parking nearby, but Vancouver's inane 2 hour no remetering limit in the evening meant someone had to get up and move the car to avoid a parking ticket. Parking is getting beyond silly.

“ok food but poor service and extremely loud music made this unbearable”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

food is ok, not spectacular, but ok, the problem is that they have belly dancer, which by itself is not a problem, but the music when she comes on is beyond loud, its rock concert loud, and they can't lower it in the main dining room while keeping it in the party room/private dining room
maybe for lunch is a different experience or if you go to dine with large crowd in party mood is ok but not good for families, for date, for conversation, or for romantic evening....

“Nothing Great to write home about”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Visited The Afghan Horseman last night (March 2 2013) and was disappointed with the food. The portions were mediocore, and small, Kebabs tasteless, We ordered the kebab platter with 3 different types of kebabs (chicken, lamb and beef). Firstly we were expecting 3 skewers of kebabs seperated but they all came on one skewer with 3 of each. Simply seperating the same portions on 3 smaller skewers would be a better option. The lamb kebab were chewy and my wife left them as she found them too chewy. The portions were small, for the $18 we paid per dish we were expecting bigger betterand tastier portions. A small salad, an even smaller dip, rice and a skewer of kebabs do not justify the price tag. However it was not all bad, the positives was the belly dancing, (I think this was the same belly dancer that we saw at the Felicos in Richmond), and the service. The staff were polite and friendly, I guess they have to be if they are charging such exhorbitant prices for such small portions. Try it once and make your own decision.

“Excellent food, great service, fun experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

First time visit to this restaurant, our son took us as a Christmas present. The food was amazing, the waiters were helpful and insightful and made some great suggestions, explaining the dishes really well. We will definitely visit this place again!

“Unique afghani food served here! Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

We've lived in Vancouver all our lives and finally visited this unique restaurant on Feb 9, 2013; it's been here for 39 years! We had heard of it and are very pleased to have ventured forth and tried it out. We arrived at 5 pm on a Sat night before the chattering crowds came, and it was lovely to enjoy the afghan ambience; beautiful hanging lamps, curtained alcoves, fascinating needlework and pictures on the walls, and friendly waiters. The menu is extensive, and reasonably priced; similar to White Spot prices with 100% better flavour! The 3 of us shared the Horsemen's Platter; saffron rice, eggplant, cabbage rolls, lamb shoulder, lamb skewers, chicken skewers and fried potato served with yogurt dip. There was also an appetizer with bread and spinach dip and humus. We stayed for 2 hours and plan to be back soon! My husband and son also tried the cardamom tea after but I stayed with plain black tea. It was a delightful experience. The only problem is parking; we had to use pay parking on the street.
