The Reef is one of those places you can just chill out. The family regularly pops in for a Sunday brunch, when it is really easy to get in with a full load of kids and in-laws.
The atmosphere is goes along with "Main St". Very relaxed and casual. We've never had a problem with lazy service or anything, the service has always been very timely and helpful for us; generally good people. During peak hours, the staff can be stretched a little thin, but I've never felt to be waiting excessively. Whether you are out for a full meal or a drink and some appetizers, it's not a bad place to sit back.
The food is good, going for Caribbean (generally Jamaican) flavouring with a little Northwest twist on dishes like the crab cakes. They have a decently portioned and tender jerk chicken and the monthly specials are usually worthwhile. The Bajan chicken was a nice change from the spice associated with the jerk dishes. Brunch patrons will enjoy the bennies. Overall the food is very good.
Pricing is "okay". There's a little bit of mind trickery you have to grasp. A lot of the food served here is casual food that would be extremely affordable in most Caribbean countries. The Reef's pricing places it squarely in the range of "mid-range, Vancouver", but people have to remember that this is Vancouver, with Vancouver lease rates. Compared to any other meal along Main St, it is a pretty average rate.
