I was invited by a friend for lunch at the Greek restaurant “Stepho’s”. Despite I wasn’t impressed few years ago I thought that it might have improved. But this was not the case. After lining up for about 20 minutes we could sit in the waiting area. But the person who cared about the seating messed up. The couple who came last was then seated first; all others had to wait longer. The selection on the menu was pretty limited. My friend ordered calamari and I took the roasted lamb. Somewhere they played some music but it was not getting into our area, and due to the low quality of the speakers the sound was terrible. The person who served us was not friendly and we felt like on a conveyor. Then we got our meal. The calamari were ok (hard to mess up; I experienced only once very bad calamari). But the roasted lamb was disappointing (as it has been several years ago). The meat was pretty dry (a customer at the neighbouring table had the same impression), and no Tzatziki was delivered with it. Instead I got some very soft cooked veggie mix that didn’t have a significant taste at all on rice and baked potatoes. The pita was also pretty dry and we both didn’t enjoy them. The only good thing was that the water in our glasses was frequently refilled. I was not a great meal; but also was not so expensive. Probably here really applies the wording: buy cheap – get cheap.
Generally, I not really understand why the people are lining up there. I assume, the reputation is much better than the real quality. The price is low. But when I go to a restaurant then I want to enjoy the meal. If not, I could go to a fast-food restaurant. But this is not fast food; for that was the waiting time far too long. I don’t believe that I would go there again anytime soon.
