“Amazing choice of flavours”

Favourite gelato place to visit in the summer. So many flavours and very popular. Chocolate Grand Marnier is my favourite!

“Imaginative Gelato”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

So garlic gelato has not been served in your home lately, just pop by this famous house of cool and try the best flavours this side of Milan and look for the exotic. You won't see these everywhere. Gelato is almost as popular as sushi in this culinarily hot city.

“An "experience", overpriced but may be worth it?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

I've enjoyed taking visiting friends here for several years, usually as a last stop on our way out of Vancouver. It is a neat experience to see & try all the wild & wacky varieties (over 200). On rainy wintry evenings I've still found the place brightly lit and bubbling with energy. However, the price of $4.50 for one scoop of a mediocre quality of gelato (quite watery), is getting prohibitive.

“The ultimate ice cream lover's haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Indulge your passion for ice cream here. There are 218 flavors available every day selected from over 400 flavors they create. Beside the usuals you will find such exotic flavors as: maple bacon, apple pie, birthday cake, chanterelle mushroom, cherry cheesecake, peanut butter fudge, coffee crisp, and strawberry & black olives! With so many flavors available you can while away your afternoon trying free samples. However, be warned that this is a very popular place and on warm, sunny days it is crowded and you may have to wait a while for a sample! Luckily it was cool and raining the day we visited so there few other patrons.

“218 flavours and it's still "meh"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

I've driven past this prominent pink building several thousand times and never gone in. (I live near a fabulous gelato place in the burbs--Matteo's Gelato in PoCo.) Having just returned from a trip to Italy, however, and still excited about the torrent of flavours that country has to offer, I thought it was time to really explore Vancouver's Italian side. On a Friday night, just after the nearby Whitecaps game ended, the place was buzzing. (Note the parking lot right across the street) The drill is you line up at the cashier on the Venables side of the room and purchase your token ($6.50 for a moderate sized double scoop) then you cruise for samples. The crowd has a real party atmosphere and at first it's exciting to taste all the exotic flavours--curry, apple pie with cheddar cheese, wild fennel, basil chocolate, basil pernod, chocolate with Jack Daniels, etc. Pretty soon though you realize that they all lack depth or in the case of the apple pie with cheddar cheese, taste disgusting. The chocolate choices are particularly disappointing--the equivalent of a huge waxy chocolate bunny. The cone too is bland and lacking the toasty sweetness that makes for a perfect finale. A very disappointing experience overall.
