“Old Vancouver Steakhouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

We went as a group from work...had the usual cheese toast, striploin steak and Hy's cheesecake.
Hy's has been around for quite sometime and it is one of the classic steakhouses in Vancouver!

“Hy's-Not So Much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

I've reviewed other Steakhouses but this was disappointing. This had been at the top of our list but can only be rated on the dinosaur standard. It was dark and clubby-a business person's stomping ground with a rather cool looking Dante's inferno type of cooking service front and center. The steak was just adequate with some twice baked mashed and some fairy parsley. Come on, you can get a decent steak anywhere but 170$ (2 steaks,40$ wine and onion rings) Not a great value, not a great steak.

“Disappointed!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013 via mobile

We decided to dine at Hy's as we hadn't been there in a long time! We had cheese toast and escargot as an appetizer, it was great! We ordered our main coarse I had the Halibut special it was very good! My husband ordered the Ribeye Steak bone in, medium,It appeared to be a thin cut and the steak was under cooked! They took it back into the kitchen, the steak came back cooked to medium, however it was not at all up to Hy's quality, the steak tasted like bacon, the server was very apologetic! It was just disappointing visit!

“Grotto in Vancouver”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

The restaurant was a throwback to the steakhouse of yesteryear. Waiter was very friendly and the food came without a long wait. The meal was good, the wine recommended by the waiter, a Canadian merlot, paired well with the food, and overall the experience was very pleasant.

“Big Steaks & Big Wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We visited on a Sunday night. We had a wine principal from Napa Valley and we invited the Sommelier to join us. We were enjoying a big Napa Cab which just lead us to a sit down dinner of Chargrilled Steaks. The double baked potato and the cheese bread are a must. Delicious and this place was famous in it's day, but on a Sunday night, we had a surprizingly good meal and the service was excellent.
