“Liberate your self from the city, and clothes...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

This is a unique place in Vancouver with a very unique culture. The vendors and atmosphere is great. People are friendly, especially if you're naked, and there is plenty of space for everyone. There are posts for volleyball nets and shallow beaches for swimming. Fires and drinking are illegal, but just like every beach they do happen. Please be respectful and do not leave trash or anything else behind. Police do patrol the area, frequently without uniforms but never naked!

“Too many boneheads ruining a once beautiful place.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

I've been coming here for 25 years, and it just ain't the same. Where I once went to relax has become an outdoor shopping mall. I used to come here to get away... nowadays the beach is lined with businesses selling tacky clothing, overpriced junk food, and souvenirs. Fights are not uncommon, as many regulars believe they own certain parts of the beach, or the right to conduct certain businesses. It starts with the self appointed wannabe cop who positions herself at the bottom of the path and makes a point of nagging most every arrival. I overheard an alcohol vendor who calls himself "The Margarita Man" complaining that some 'B' had the gall to try and park in "his" public parking spot. Many people rope or wall off large sections of the beach for their exclusive use. Horrible musicians proliferate- as you try to escape the sound of one, you walk into another's pathetic sounds, or some jerk with an industrial strength ghetto blaster. It seems more people are choosing not to go naked, but that's their loss. The worst though is the dirtbag stoners lighting up their drugs right beside you. Well here's a news flash for you Cheech- I didn't come to this public park to inhale your drugs!
All in all, I'll still check it out, though wreck beach is turning into everything I came here to get away from.

“Not the same”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

I have been going to Wreck beach for years, for the opportunity to lay in the sun and relax. No matter how busy the beach was, there was a mutual respect and sense of community, which was well worth the 400 or so stairs up and down to get there. No more. The past couple years, Wreck Beach has become "trendy", and is now over-populated with young tattooed partiers. They throw frisbees, skim-board, some park their speed boats just off-shore and blast the latest top 40. Most importantly though, they are not going "au natural". This has changed the dynamics of the beach and it is no longer relaxing. It is still possible to go, if you can find somewhere to spread a towel, and remove whichever clothing you wish, but it is just not the same.

“great place to get away and let loose.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Its a great place to get away from the city and let loose. If you can hike stairs that is. In the summer months people are selling food and beverages. Its also a clothing optional beach so be prepared to see some naked people. The beach is also great for swimming.

“Clothing optional”

A very unique community, accepting of all walks of life. <3 the characters you find here, a place where you can relax and just be who you are, with or without your clothes ;)
