My partner and I just spent a week in Vancouver following a conference in the city centre, and given the relative cost, we were almost expecting to enjoy the upmarket conference hotel more. We couldn't have been more wrong.
It's almost impossible to overstate the charm, consideration, and courtesy of the Inn and its staff - as you may gather from other reviews the Inn itself is a renovated Edwardian house that has been transformed into a work of art through the extensive use of handmade, custom stained glass and other tasteful elements of period-style decor.
In terms of its basic mechanics as a B&B, the Corkscrew is excellent - the rooms are very comfortable (great mattresses), very well maintained, and well-furnished with restored local antique pieces. It's very well located - just far enough from major roads to be quiet, but situated next to major bus lines in two directions (by which it's 15 mins to the centre), as well as being within walking distance of the many Kitsilano shops, restaurants and beaches worth visiting. The service (provided by the housekeeper, Karen Craig, and to a lesser extent by the B&B's owners), is extremely friendly and unobtrusive, and the conveniences (tea, biscuits, etc.) very convenient indeed.
But back to the charm - after two nights at the Inn, the place felt like a second home, and really made our experience of Vancouver special. For a city with excellent cuisine, the breakfasts are outstanding, and they went to great lengths to accommodate special dietary needs (in this case, gluten-free), going so far as to obtain gluten-free bread for use throughout the week, making gluten-free pancakes, and gluten-free French toast. Needless to say, it was all excellent (as confirmed by my partner, who ate the pancakes with gusto). Take this together with touches like the beautiful glass mosaic in front of the charming corkscrew museum...I don't think I've ever encountered a hotel, b&b or pension with this much attention to detail. And it's very good value for that degree of luxury.
We cannot recommend the Corkscrew Inn highly enough - it's a remarkable space in a remarkable city.
