“Our go-to place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

East of Main is our go-to place for meeting friends for dinner. It's one of the quieter places in Strathcona, cozy enough to allow for good conversation.

The menu is inspired by traditional Catalan tapas (personally one of our favourite world cuisines), with tortas and patatas bravas prominently featured. Everything we've had there is delicious. The wine list features a lovely tempranillo, alongside local fare.

And it's great to know that East of Main's proceeds go to Project Limelight, a non-profit theatre program for kids.

“Light bright fare – wonderful dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

East of Main offers tasty tapas, sharing plates, and more substantial entrées. Three of us dined very well on:
Zucchini slices with a tapenade made with green Manzanillo olives, parmesan and pistachios
Eggplant with a crunchy currant couscous and spiced with earthy paprika and cinnamon
Chickpea and kale salad dressed with feta, chopped walnuts, roasted red peppers and garlic

Hot dishes included cauliflower with chopped hazelnuts and a tart coffee-pomegranate syrup dressing,
and a pulled chicken, redolent with caraway and fennel spices that came with two yellow-tinged wedges of turmeric spice cake

Everything was nicely plated and each dish was really bright and fresh tasting with very distinct aromas and flavourings. The chef has a very deft touch and never let any dish get overpowered with the spices used. Server brought each new dish as we finished the last one to allow us to really relish the individuality of the food.

We really liked the serenity of the space...no loud conversation-killing music. Local artists and photographers provided the artwork on the walls.

We look forward to visiting again...lots more interesting and very reasonably priced dishes yet to try.

“Go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

I've been for lunch twice and dinner once. Always excellent. Food is delicious with some conventional dishes and some for those who want to try something new and different. I have introduced six others to this place and all have been back since. My son and daughter-in-law say it's their new fave.

The next best thing about this place is that the profits go to finance a drama school for kids in the Downtown Eastside and Strathcona neighbourhoods...kids who would not otherwise be able to afford such a thing
