We tried Via Tevere Pizzeria recently after RAVE reviews from friends... Via Tevere adheres to strict criteria to be considered "true" Neopolitan pizza. The restaurant is tucked away in a residential neighbourhood but had an enormous lineup. [Note - it's on Victoria Drive in Vancouver, not the city of Victoria as listed on TripAdvisor!] We put our names down, walked down the street to have a beer on Commercial Drive, then came back an hour later and our table was ready.
The restaurant was full of people of all ages and had a good vibe - bustling but not too loud. Service was fast and friendly. We had the antipasto misto and mixed olives to start. Then, the pizza. It's baked in a very hot wood-fired oven for just 90 seconds, creating a light fluffy edge with some charred spots and a soft centre. It's served uncut and you're encouraged to eat however you want - with a knife and fork, or ripped and folded and eaten by hand. Pizza was very good - I tried the "prosciutto e funghi". Toppings were a little sparse for my liking, but I gather this is the Neopolitan style.
Most pizzas were $15 (range $13-18). I'd recommend Via Tevere - while there are a lot of pizzerias in Vancouver, this one does stand out. Get there early or be prepared to wait in line!
