We tried this restaurant because enticing aromas wafted out the door, reminding us of one of our favourite restaurants ever, the long-departed Mandalay in Boston. The menu was large, multi-ethnic, and somewhat confusing, so we opted for two Burmese dishes and a lamb/yoghurt curry. The curry was flavourful and nicely presented but could have used a bit more seasoning. The Burmese dishes, kayan chinthi (tomato salad) and chyar-san-chek (a meal-sized chicken/rice vermicelli/mushroom soup) were exceptional. The host was friendly and helpful, and has excellent taste in music :). This place deserves a greater following. Perhaps a menu with even more Burmese choices (especially more meat) would do the job, because the Burmese food at Rangoon really is delicious. There's a Burmese dish that's like Indonesian rendang sapi that we'd give anything to try again. If more diners tried the chef's wonderful Burmese cuisine, Rangoon could be a destination restaurant in Vancouver.
