A conference necessitated a four day stay at the Fairmont Vancouver. As a President's Club member (sign up is complementary), my room was ready earlier than expected, with a personalized package ready for my arrival as I exited the taxi cab in the covered and heated car port area of the property. Complementary wi-fi, a daily newspaper as well as a complementary shoe shine made joining the Fairmont rewards program that much more worthwhile. The decadent feel about the hotel is bolstered by boutique tenants within the lobby of the including Gucci, St. John's as well as Louis Vuitton. Other luxury shopping venues such as Tiffany and Co. and Burberry are a short walk away.
Moments after my arrival, an array of waiting elevators whisked me to my third floor room overlooking a landscaped garden area. The guest room was of adequate size, with large closets, and a bright, airy bathroom. The bathroom appointments themselves were dated and old, and a shower later confirmed that a renovation of bathrooms is well over due: Water pressure and temperature were inconsistent, and even the flush in the toilet was working haphazardly, requiring two or three flushes to dispense even a few pieces of bathroom paper. All told however, the room was well appointed, and having travelled extensively over the past year, the bed, pillows and linens were amongst the most comfortable I have experienced as of late.
Early mornings required even earlier workouts: Fortunately, the gym and pool area were easily accessible, and once again, the gym amenities were of the highest standard I have experienced in my travels. All equipment appeared new and in excellent working order. The gym was well equipped and well maintained, exceeding my expectations.
Similarly, the convention facilities met and exceeded all expectations I had. The conference rooms were expansive and well lit. A/V equipment was modern and functioning well, with a hotel staff member always on hand to make minor adjustments as required. There were a large number of rooms, and the convention floor was well laid out with numerous meeting areas, restroom facilities and so on. Breakfast and lunch provisions were varied, fresh and always provided on time. The impeccable service coupled with the opulent appearance and historic charm of the convention facilities, make this hotel an ideal venue for business meetings, conferences or even family celebrations.
The calibre of service was present throughout the hotel. I was always addressed by name when calling the front desk. Housekeeping staff were always exchanging eye contact and pleasantries, and Dave at the Concierge was particularly helpful. Upon returning from a run one morning, Dave promptly greeted me at the door with a chilled bottle of water. He exuded enthusiasm about his position, and had an intimate understanding about local landmarks, attractions and local events; impressive indeed!
In all, my stay at the Fairmont was one of the better hotel visits in recent memory. I would strongly advocate this property to others, and would consider staying there during future visits to the beautiful city of Vancouver.
