Managed to get a table for only ONE person for the Dine Out on a Tuesday night. Surprisingly, they sat me upstairs at a nice table for two; I should have brought someone but the reservation was only for one.
My server was fantastic; always there but not intrusive and very low keyed which i liked. I had their POPLAR GROVE, bc wine, viognier at $14/glass and it was very delicious and nicely chilled which I really enjoyed.
To start, I had their little bread basket for $2.50 and there were 3 samplings--tiny bacon brioche, anchovy twist; and a sesame flat crisp. They were kind enough to refill my basket with 2 more delicious anchovy twists.
As appetizer, I ordered the fennel octopus salad which came on a bed of beans and some sliced olives. The roasted octopus was good but it didn't wow me. As a main, I ordered the veal piccata which was great. Two fairly large medallions of veal with plenty of fresh mushrooms and a wine?
reduction along with rapini and risotto. The sauce was a little on the saltier side for my liking but it was still very good. For dessert, I had the stickey toffee pudding which came warm and moist with a very decadent caramel sauce....yum! The ginger ice cream was a refreshing delight and the best was the ginger crisp florentine....so so crunchy and thin!
My server was kind enough to pack up the appetizer, the main, and the dessert for me as I left half of everything to bring home. Don't misunderstand, the portions were not large but I promised my son I bring some home for him....lol...
2 glasses of extremely good viognier; a little bread basket; and the $38 prix fixe plus tax and gratuity...$90 for one person. definitely not cheap and their wine prices are quite high but it was a lovely meal which i enjoyed.
