“Great place to stay before your Alaskian cruise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

Close to the port, not too bad at all. Close to restaraunts and shops, and you can explore gas town. The rooms are clean, a bit crammed but for the price not bad at all. The breakfast is complementary downstairs in its own little area, where you get your average buffet style food which wasnt bad at all. I would come back here before my alaskian trip or explore Vancouver.

This is a beautiful old building with very friendly and helpful staff. I did find the room a little small but it was nothing my husband and I couldn't handle. We had a queen size bed which, unfortunately, was not very comfortable. The pillows were amazing but the mattress itself felt very old and we kind of sunk in towards the middle all night. The elevator is extremely slow and it's usually faster to take the stairs (which is a little annoying when you're on the 6th floor)
The complimentary breakfast was fine and hit the spot. There is a ton of businesses and restaurants within walking distance.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. So happy that you enjoy the character of our small, historical building. The fact that you found your bed uncomfortable is concerning to me and we will have our housekeeping and maintenance look into that right away. Our elevator can get busy at peak times and we do our best to limit staff use during these times. Everyone should check out our stairwell as it is original to the building and was constructed over 100 years ago. Please come and visit us again soon and we will be sure to have a big comfy bed waiting for you!

I originally booked myself in at the Westin Bayshore for 4 nights and while that hotel is great, the deal I found at the Ramada was half the price and included the breakfast.

Now, on price alone you could say this is a great swap but overall my stay was excellent.
We got to the hotel early at 12 pm and out of 3 rooms booked one of the rooms was ready. All 3 rooms were located on the 6th (and highest) floor and all rooms were spacious, 2 came with king size beds and 1 was with a queen.

Bathrooms were all good size, clean, nice bath products and the shower head... Fantastic! the different massage positions really were a treat on the head after a full day of sightseeing.

The staff (Kat & Matt especially!) were soooo hospitable, kind and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they really went out of their way with recommendations and assistance.
(Kat, the Italian restaurant Al Porto was great and Matt, your Halloween witch was perfectly acceptable on the window! lol)

The location of the hotel... I am not easily scared and to be honest the whole debate on this "bad" area really is overrated. Compared to the location of our San Francisco hotel this really was like a gated community. My mum even felt safe enough to go to the local version of 7/11 in the evening to grab a couple of snacks, on her own. Obviously don't flash your cash or walk around with expensive goods on display, but who still does that anywhere in the world these days?

As for the breakfast, it was great! Simple as that, for what you pay here it is perfectly fine and yes in life sometimes you have to wait for a seat, the breakfast area really isn't that big but that's just the size of the building.
On one occasion when there really were no seats in sight for some time to come, we requested if we could take the breakfast and eat it in our rooms and this was no issue.
Until I stayed at this hotel I had never eaten a bagel in my life, now I am hooked! Toasted onion bagel with cream cheese, delicious!
They also had pancakes, omelettes, cereals, porridge, muffins, bread, coffee, tea, milk or apple, orange and cranberry juice.

Only one tiny tiny point my dad especially would have liked is a little hotel bar. Doesn't have to be a big one and I know there seems to be quite a big space next to the lobby, but maybe because this is a Ramada Limited it doesn't fit in with the brand type... But that said there are plenty of bars around the hotel and we found one to chill in every night. hahahaha.

Overall, if I were to return to Vancouver, without hesitation would I check availability here first.
First class hotel with first class staff, made my stay!

Room Tip: 6th floor rooms were all of very good size.

This hotel has now 100 years of history as a hotel - remarkable for Vancouver. The location in downtown is very convenient - two blocks away from the Skytrain station in one or from Gastown on the other direction, Chinatown or Canada Place are also only five minutes walk away. Our room was clean, nice and quiet (the latter coming with the lack of any view). Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. A continental breakfast served in a small basement room is included - nothing special, but makes for a good start in the day. Altogether very good value for money.
